How to Change the Admins on Your V Rising Server
Learn how to add and manage admins on your V Rising server using the RiverHosting panel so you can keep your game safe and give trusted players the access they need.
Admins on a V Rising server can use in-game commands to manage players, adjust the world, and keep things running smoothly. The RiverHosting panel gives you a dedicated place to manage your admin list without editing any files by hand.
Before you start
- Make sure your V Rising server is set up and has been started at least once.
- You will need the Steam ID of any player you want to make an admin. Players can find their Steam ID by visiting steamcommunity.com while logged in, or by using a site such as steamid.io.
- You must be the server owner or a subuser with the correct permissions to make changes in the panel.
When adding admins, always use the SteamID64 format, which is a long number starting with 7656. This is the format V Rising expects.
1. How to open the Admins and Bans page
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
- Click on your V Rising server to open its management page.
- In the left-hand menu, click Admins & Bans.
This page is where you can view, add, and remove admins for your server. It is separate from the in-game admin console, so you do not need the server to be running to make changes here.
2. How to add an admin to your V Rising server
- On the Admins & Bans page, find the admin list section.
- Enter the SteamID64 of the player you want to make an admin.
- Save your changes using the save or apply button on the page.
- Restart your server so the changes take effect. You can do this by clicking Restart at the top of any server page.
Changes to the admin list only take effect after you restart the server. Players who are already in-game will need to reconnect after the restart.
3. How to remove an admin from your V Rising server
- Go back to Admins & Bans in the left-hand menu.
- Find the Steam ID of the admin you want to remove from the list.
- Delete their entry and save your changes.
- Restart the server to apply the update.
If you remove your own Steam ID from the admin list, you will lose admin access in-game. Make sure you keep at least one trusted admin on the list at all times.
4. How admins use their permissions in-game
Once a player is on the admin list and the server has restarted, they can activate their admin permissions from inside the game.
- While in-game, open the chat or console by pressing the relevant key (usually
~or as shown in the V Rising settings). - Type
adminauthand press Enter to authenticate as an admin. - Admin commands will then be available for that session.
Players may need to run adminauth again after reconnecting. Their Steam ID still needs to be on the admin list for this to work.
Troubleshooting
- Admin commands are not working in-game. Make sure the player ran
adminauthin the in-game console after connecting. Also confirm their SteamID64 is saved correctly on the Admins & Bans page and the server has been restarted since the change was made. - The server did not apply my changes. Always restart the server after saving changes to the admin list. Use the Restart button at the top of your server page.
- I am not sure which Steam ID format to use. Use SteamID64, which is the long numeric format starting with 7656. You can look this up at steamid.io by entering the player's Steam profile URL or username.
- I cannot see the Admins and Bans page. Make sure you are logged in as the server owner or a subuser who has been granted permission to access that section. If you need to adjust subuser permissions, go to the Users section in the left-hand menu.
