How to Snapshot, Restore and Switch Worlds on Your Stationeers Server
Learn how to snapshot, restore, upload and switch Stationeers worlds from the World tab in the RiverHosting panel so your station is always safe and easy to swap.
Your Stationeers station can take many hours to build, so it pays to keep a safe copy before big changes. The World tab in the RiverHosting panel lets you snapshot a world, restore it later, upload a world from somewhere else and choose which world your server loads. This guide walks you through each of these jobs.
Before you start
- You need access to your server in the RiverHosting panel at https://panel.riverhosting.com.
- Each world is stored as its own folder, named after its Save Name. The World tab shows these folders in a list called Worlds.
- A snapshot is a packed copy of one world. Snapshots are listed separately in a list called Snapshots.
- The World page asks you to do these jobs while the server is stopped, so we stop it first in every section below.
The World tab handles single worlds. If you want a copy of your whole server instead, use the Backups page from the left-hand menu.
1. How to take a snapshot of a world
- Click Console in the left-hand menu.

- Click Stop and wait until the status badge at the top of the page shows OFFLINE.
- In the GAME section of the left-hand menu, click Stationeers, then the World tab at the top of the page.

- Find your world in the Worlds list. The world your server uses has an Active badge.
- Click Snapshot next to that world. The world is archived into your Snapshots list.
- Check that the new entry appears in the Snapshots list. To keep a copy on your own computer, click Download next to it.
Take a snapshot before you add new mods, test something risky or switch worlds. It only takes a moment and gives you an easy way back.
2. How to switch to a different world
If you have more than one world in the Worlds list, you choose which one the server loads with Set Active.
- Make sure the server is stopped. Click Console in the left-hand menu, then click Stop if the status badge does not show OFFLINE.
- In the GAME section of the left-hand menu, click Stationeers, then the World tab at the top of the page.
- In the Worlds list, click Set Active next to the world you want to play.
- Click Console in the left-hand menu, then click Start.
Set Active loads the world on the next start, so the change is not live until you start the server again.
3. How to restore a snapshot
- Click Console in the left-hand menu, then click Stop and wait for the status badge to show OFFLINE.
- Open Stationeers in the GAME section, then the World tab.
- In the Snapshots list, click Restore next to the snapshot you want. It is extracted back into a world folder and shows up in the Worlds list.
- In the Worlds list, click Set Active next to the restored world.
- Click Console in the left-hand menu, then click Start.
Before you restore, snapshot the world you are using now (see section 1). That way you can return to it if the restored one is not what you wanted.
4. How to upload a world you already have
If you have a Stationeers world from another host or from your own computer, you can upload it as an archive.
- Pack your world folder into a
.zip,.tar,.gzor.tgzarchive on your computer. - Click Console in the left-hand menu, then click Stop and wait for the status badge to show OFFLINE.
- Open Stationeers in the GAME section, then the World tab.
- Use the Upload World Archive option and choose your archive.
- When the upload finishes, the world appears in the Worlds list. Click Set Active next to it.
- Click Console in the left-hand menu, then click Start.
5. How to delete old worlds and snapshots
- Stop the server from the Console page and wait for the status badge to show OFFLINE.
- Open Stationeers in the GAME section, then the World tab.
- Click Delete next to the world or snapshot you no longer need.
Only delete a world or snapshot when you are sure you do not need it. If in doubt, click Download on a snapshot first so you keep a copy.
Troubleshooting
- The wrong world loads: Check which world has the Active badge in the Worlds list. Click Set Active on the one you want, then start the server again.
- A restored world does not appear to be in use: Restoring only puts the world back in the Worlds list. You still need to click Set Active and then start the server.
- My uploaded world is missing: Make sure your archive is a
.zip,.tar,.gzor.tgzfile, then check the Worlds list again. - I want different difficulty or start settings: Those are only used when a brand new Save Name is created, and cannot be changed on an existing world. Enter a new Save Name in World Creation to start a fresh world, and your old world stays untouched.
- Buttons do not seem to work: Check that the server is stopped, as the World page expects.
