How to Change the Seed for Your Stationeers Server World
Learn how to change the world seed on your Stationeers server from the RiverHosting panel so you can start fresh with a new map without losing your settings.
Every Stationeers world is generated from a seed, which is a number that controls how your planet's terrain, resources, and starting conditions are laid out. If you want to explore a different world, start a fresh run, or share a specific map layout with your friends, changing the seed is the way to do it.
This guide walks you through how to update your world seed using the RiverHosting panel. No files to hunt down manually, and no advanced knowledge required.
Before you start
- You need access to your server at panel.riverhosting.com.
- Changing the seed will generate a completely new world. Your existing world data will not carry over to the new map.
- Make sure any players who care about the current world have finished what they need to do before you proceed.
- Consider taking a backup of your current world before making changes. You can do this from the Backups tab in the panel.
Changing the seed and wiping the world is permanent. If you want to keep your current world, download a backup from the Backups tab before continuing.
1. Back up your current world
Before changing anything, it is a good idea to save a copy of your current world in case you want to return to it later.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel and open your Stationeers server.
- Click Backups in the left-hand menu.
- Click Create Backup and wait for it to complete.
- Once the backup is ready, you can download it if you want a local copy.
If you create backups regularly, give this one a name you will recognise, such as the current date or the name of the world, so you can find it easily later.
2. Update the world seed in Server Config
Stationeers reads the world seed from its server configuration. You can update this directly from the Server Config page in the panel.
- In the left-hand menu, click Server Config.
- Look for the seed setting. It may be labelled something like World Seed or Seed depending on the current version of the config page.
- Clear the existing value and enter your new seed. Seeds are typically whole numbers. You can type any number you like, or leave it blank to let the server generate a random one.
- Save your changes.
Seeds in Stationeers are usually plain numbers, such as 48291 or 7700042. If you found a seed shared by another player online, enter it exactly as shown.
3. Wipe the existing world data
Updating the seed alone is not enough. The server also needs the old world files removed so it generates a fresh world from the new seed when it starts. You can do this using the World page in the panel.
- In the left-hand menu, click World.
- Look for an option to reset or delete the current world. This removes the saved world files so the server builds a new one on the next startup.
- Confirm when prompted.
Deleting the world files cannot be undone from the panel unless you have a backup ready to restore. Make sure you completed step 1 before doing this.
4. Restart your server
With the new seed saved and the old world files cleared, restart the server to generate the new world.
- Go back to the main server page by clicking the server name or the console icon in the left-hand menu.
- Click Restart at the top of the page, or stop and then start the server using the power controls.
- Watch the Console output. You should see the server generating a new world during startup.
- Once the server is fully online, connect and confirm the new world has loaded correctly.
If you see world generation messages in the console and the terrain looks different when you join, your new seed is working correctly.
Troubleshooting
- The world looks the same after restarting. The old world files may still be present. Go back to the World page and confirm the reset completed before restarting again.
- The server is not starting after the change. Check the Console for error messages. An incorrectly formatted seed value could cause issues. Try entering a simple whole number such as
12345to test. - I want to go back to my old world. Go to the Backups tab, find the backup you created in step 1, and restore it. This will bring back the old world files and the previous seed.
- I left the seed blank but the world looks the same. A blank seed usually means the server picks a random one on startup. If you had not cleared the old world files, it may have loaded the existing save instead of generating a new one.
- Players cannot connect after the change. Make sure the server has fully finished starting up. Stationeers world generation can take a minute or two on first launch with a new seed.
