How to Install and Manage Mods on Your Stationeers Server

    4 min read·Updated Jul 21, 2026

Learn how to install and manage mods on your Stationeers server using the RiverHosting panel so you and your crew can enjoy a fully customised experience.

Stationeers is a deeply technical survival and engineering game, and mods can add everything from new machines and items to quality-of-life improvements that make station life a little less deadly. The RiverHosting panel makes it straightforward to add mods to your Stationeers server without touching any config files by hand.

This guide walks you through finding, installing, and managing mods on your Stationeers server from the panel.

    Before you start

    • You need an active Stationeers server on RiverHosting. Log in to the panel at panel.riverhosting.com to get started.
    • Stationeers uses the Steam Workshop for mods. You will need the Workshop ID for each mod you want to install. You can find this in the URL on the mod's Steam Workshop page. It is the long number at the end, for example 1234567890.
    • Make sure your server is stopped before making changes to mods. This prevents conflicts and ensures the changes load correctly when the server starts back up.
    • Let any players on the server know before you stop it so they are not caught off guard.
    Stop your server first

Always stop your Stationeers server before adding or removing mods. Making changes while the server is running can cause errors or prevent mods from loading correctly.

    1. How to find the Workshop ID for a mod

Before you can install a mod, you need its Steam Workshop ID. Here is how to find it.

    1. Open the Stationeers Steam Workshop in your browser.
    2. Find the mod you want to install and open its Workshop page.
    3. Look at the URL in your browser address bar. It will look something like this:
    https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1234567890

The number after id= is the Workshop ID. Copy and save it somewhere handy as you will need it in the next steps.

    Check mod compatibility

Before installing a mod, read its Workshop page description to check whether it is compatible with your current version of Stationeers and whether it requires any other mods to work.

    2. How to add mods using the Mods page

The RiverHosting panel includes a dedicated Mods page for Stationeers servers, so you can manage your mods without editing any files manually.

    1. Log in to the panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
    2. Click on your Stationeers server from the server list.
    3. In the left-hand menu, click Mods.
    4. You will see an option to add a mod by its Workshop ID. Enter the Workshop ID you copied earlier into the field provided.
    5. Click the button to add the mod. It will appear in your mod list.
    6. Repeat this process for any additional mods you want to install.
    7. Once you have added all the mods you want, start your server. The mods will be downloaded and loaded automatically.
    Mods added successfully

Once your server starts, check the Console tab to confirm the mods are loading without errors. You should see each mod mentioned in the startup log.

    3. How to remove a mod

If a mod is causing problems or you simply want to remove it, you can do so from the same Mods page.

    1. Make sure your server is stopped.
    2. In the left-hand menu, click Mods.
    3. Find the mod you want to remove in the list.
    4. Click the remove or delete option next to it.
    5. Start your server again. The mod will no longer be loaded.
    Removing mods mid-save

Removing a mod that added items, machines, or world changes to an existing save can corrupt that save or cause missing-item errors in your world. If you are unsure, create a backup before removing any mod.

    4. How to create a backup before making mod changes

It is always a good idea to back up your server before adding or removing mods, especially on an active world.

    1. In the left-hand menu, click Backups.
    2. Click the button to create a new backup.
    3. Wait for the backup to complete. You will see it appear in the backup list when it is done.

If a mod causes problems and you need to roll back, you can restore from this backup. Your Backups page also lets you download a backup to your own computer for extra safety.

Back up before every mod change

Making a backup before adding or removing mods is one of the simplest ways to protect your world. It only takes a moment and can save you a lot of trouble later.

    5. How to check the console for mod errors

After starting your server with mods enabled, the Console tab is the best place to check whether everything loaded correctly.

    1. In the left-hand menu, click Console.
    2. Watch the startup output as your server loads.
    3. Look for any lines mentioning your mod names. If a mod loaded successfully, you should see a confirmation message. If something went wrong, the error message will usually tell you which mod caused it.

Common things to look for include missing dependency errors (where a mod requires another mod that is not installed) and version mismatch warnings. If you see these, check the mod's Workshop page for instructions.

    Troubleshooting

    • The server crashes after adding a mod. Stop the server, go to the Mods page, and remove the most recently added mod. Start the server again to see if that resolves the issue. Check the Console for error details.
    • A mod is not appearing in the game. Make sure the Workshop ID was entered correctly. Double-check the Steam Workshop URL and try re-adding the mod with the correct ID.
    • Players see a mod mismatch error when connecting. Some mods need to be installed on both the server and the player's local game. Check the mod's Workshop page to see if it is a client-side or server-side mod.
    • The server takes much longer to start after adding mods. This is normal the first time a new mod is downloaded. Subsequent startups should be faster once the mod files are already on the server.
    • A mod was removed but is still affecting the world. Some mods leave behind data in the world save. If the issue persists, you may need to restore a backup made before the mod was installed.
