How to Rename Your Soulmask Server
Learn how to change your Soulmask server name from the RiverHosting panel so your server stands out and players can find it easily in the browser.
Your Soulmask server name is the first thing players see when they search for a server to join. Giving it a clear, recognisable name makes it easier for your friends to find you and helps your server feel more like home. You can change the name at any time directly from the RiverHosting panel without editing any files by hand.
Before you start
- You need an active Soulmask server on your RiverHosting account.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com before following the steps below.
- You will need to restart your server after saving the change so the new name takes effect.
Keep your server name short and easy to remember. Avoid special characters that might not display correctly in the in-game server browser.
1. How to change your Soulmask server name
The server name is controlled through the Server Config page, which is the built-in settings editor for your Soulmask server. Follow these steps to update it.
- Go to panel.riverhosting.com and open your Soulmask server.
- In the left-hand menu, click Server Config.
- Find the server name field. It is usually labelled something like Server Name or Name.
- Clear the existing name and type your new server name.
- Click Save to apply your changes.
- Restart your server so the new name loads. You can do this by clicking Restart at the top of your server page.
Once your server has finished restarting, the new name will appear in the Soulmask server browser and on your server's connection details.
2. How to confirm the new name is showing correctly
After the restart, it is worth checking that the name updated as expected. Here is the easiest way to confirm it.
- Open Soulmask on your computer and go to the in-game server browser or server list.
- Search for your new server name.
- If you do not see it straight away, give it a minute or two. The server browser can take a short time to refresh after a restart.
- Alternatively, connect directly using your server's IP address and port, which you can find on the Network page in the RiverHosting panel.
If you or your players always connect using the IP address rather than the browser, the name change still applies. The name will show on the loading screen and in the in-game server info panel.
Troubleshooting
- The old name is still showing in the server browser. The in-game browser can cache results for a few minutes. Wait a short while and refresh the list, or connect directly using the IP address from the Network page.
- The Server Config page is not saving. Make sure you clicked the Save button and that your server was online when you made the change. Try stopping the server first, saving the config, and then starting it again.
- The name is showing blank or as a default name. Go back to Server Config and check that the name field is not empty. Save and restart again.
- Special characters are not displaying correctly. Some characters may not render properly in the server browser. Try using only standard letters, numbers, and spaces in your server name.
