How to Install and Manage Mods on Your Soulmask Server
Learn how to install and manage mods on your Soulmask server using the RiverHosting panel so you and your tribe can enjoy a fully customised experience without any hassle.
Mods can change almost everything about your Soulmask experience, from new weapons and crafting recipes to total gameplay overhauls. The RiverHosting panel makes it straightforward to add and manage mods on your server without needing to touch any configuration files by hand.
This guide walks you through finding, installing, and managing mods on your Soulmask server from start to finish.
Before you start
- Make sure your Soulmask server is set up and has started at least once successfully.
- You will need to log in to the RiverHosting panel with your account.
- Soulmask uses the Steam Workshop for mods. You will need the Workshop ID for each mod you want to install. You can find this in the URL on the mod's Steam Workshop page.
- Stop your server before making mod changes to avoid file conflicts or corruption.
Always stop your Soulmask server before adding, removing, or changing mods. Making changes while the server is running can cause errors or corrupt your world save.
1. How to open the Mods page for your Soulmask server
The Mods page is where you manage everything mod-related for your Soulmask server. Here is how to get there:
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel.
- Select your Soulmask server from the server list.
- In the left-hand menu, click Mods.
You will see a list of any mods currently installed on your server. If you have not added any yet, this list will be empty.
2. How to add a mod using the Steam Workshop ID
Soulmask mods are distributed through the Steam Workshop. Each mod has a unique Workshop ID that you use to tell your server which mods to download and load.
- Go to the Soulmask Steam Workshop and find the mod you want to install.
- Open the mod's page and look at the URL in your browser. The Workshop ID is the long number at the end of the URL.
If the mod page URL is https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3012345678, then the Workshop ID is 3012345678.
- In the RiverHosting panel, navigate to the Mods page for your server.
- Enter the Workshop ID into the mod ID field and click the button to add the mod.
- Repeat this for each mod you want to install.
Before adding a mod, check its Steam Workshop page for any notes about compatibility with other mods or required load order. Incompatible mods can prevent your server from starting.
3. How to remove a mod from your server
If a mod is causing problems or you simply no longer want it, you can remove it just as easily.
- Go to the Mods page in the left-hand menu.
- Find the mod you want to remove in the list.
- Click the remove or delete button next to that mod.
- Save your changes if prompted.
Removing a mod that added items, structures, or characters to your world may cause those things to disappear or behave unexpectedly. Consider making a backup before removing mods that affected your existing save.
4. How to back up your server before making mod changes
It is always a good idea to create a backup before adding or removing mods. If something goes wrong, you can restore your server to its previous state.
- In the left-hand menu, click Backups.
- Click the button to create a new backup and wait for it to complete.
- Once the backup is ready, you can safely make your mod changes.
Creating a backup before each mod session takes only a moment and can save you hours of lost progress if something breaks.
5. How to start your server and confirm mods are loaded
Once you have added your mods, start your server and check that everything is working correctly.
- In the left-hand menu, click Console.
- Click the start button to start your server.
- Watch the console output as the server starts. You should see messages indicating that mods are being downloaded and loaded.
- Once the server is fully online, connect in-game and confirm that your mods are active.
The first time your server starts after adding a new mod, it will download the mod files from Steam. This can take a little extra time depending on the size of the mod. This is normal.
Troubleshooting
- Server fails to start after adding a mod: Check the console output for error messages. The mod may be incompatible with your current game version or with another installed mod. Try removing the most recently added mod and starting again.
- Mod does not appear in-game: Make sure the Workshop ID was entered correctly on the Mods page. Double-check the Steam Workshop URL for the correct number.
- Server starts but crashes after a few minutes: A mod conflict is likely. Try removing mods one at a time to identify which one is causing the issue. Check the mod's Workshop page for known conflicts.
- Mods are installed but players cannot see modded content: Players may also need to subscribe to the same mods in Steam on their own client. Check the mod's instructions for any client-side requirements.
- Changes are not saving: Make sure you clicked save after making any changes on the Mods page, and that the server was stopped before you made your changes.
