How to Change the Map Seed on Your Soulmask Server
Learn how to change the world seed on your Soulmask server using the RiverHosting panel so you can start fresh with a new map whenever you are ready.
Every Soulmask world is shaped by a seed, a number that tells the game how to generate the terrain, resources, and layout of your map. If you want a fresh start, want to try a different world layout, or simply want to explore new territory with your tribe, changing the seed is the way to do it.
This guide walks you through how to change the map seed on your Soulmask server from the RiverHosting panel. No technical knowledge is required.
Generating a new seed creates a brand new world. Your current map, bases, and progress will not carry over. Back up your server before making this change if you want to preserve anything.
Before you start
- You need access to your server on the RiverHosting panel.
- Your server should be stopped before you make changes. Starting with the server offline prevents any conflicts while editing settings.
- If you want to save your current world, create a backup first using the Backups tab.
1. Stop your server
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel.
- Click on your Soulmask server to open its management page.
- Click the Stop button at the top of the page and wait for the server to fully stop before continuing.
Before stopping, you can open the Console tab to confirm there are no players online. It is good practice to let your players know the server is restarting with a new world before you make the change.
2. Back up your current world
- In the left-hand menu, click Backups.
- Click Create Backup and give it a name you will recognise, such as
pre-seed-change. - Wait for the backup to complete before moving on.
Changing the seed replaces your world permanently. A backup means you can always return to your previous world if needed.
3. Change the map seed in Server Config
- In the left-hand menu, click Server Config.
- Look for the seed setting. It is usually labelled something like World Seed or Map Seed depending on the current panel version.
- Clear the current value and enter your new seed. You can type any number you like, or leave it blank to let the server generate a random seed when it next starts.
- Click Save to store your changes.
Soulmask community forums and subreddits often share seeds alongside screenshots of the world they generate. If you have a specific layout in mind, searching those communities is a great way to find one before entering it here.
4. Clear the existing world data
Changing the seed in the config alone is not always enough. If old world files are still present, the server may continue loading the previous world instead of generating a new one. You need to remove those files first.
- In the left-hand menu, click Worlds & Backups.
- If there is an option to delete or reset the current world, use that button to remove the existing world data.
- If no dedicated delete button is available, you can remove the world folder manually using the File Manager. Open the File Manager from the left-hand menu, navigate to the world save folder (commonly found inside a
SavedorWorlddirectory), and delete the relevant folder.
Deleting the world folder permanently removes all terrain, structures, and progress on that map. Make absolutely sure your backup is complete before doing this.
5. Start your server and confirm the new world
- Go back to the main server page and click Start.
- Open the Console tab and watch the startup logs. You should see messages indicating that a new world is being generated.
- Once the server is fully online, connect to your Soulmask server and confirm that the new world has loaded correctly.
If the terrain looks different from your previous world and matches the seed you entered, the change worked. Enjoy exploring your new map.
Troubleshooting
- The old world is still loading. This usually means the previous world files were not fully removed. Stop the server, go back to the File Manager or Worlds & Backups page, and make sure all old world data has been deleted before restarting.
- The server is not starting. Open the Console tab and look for any error messages. If the seed value contains unsupported characters, try using a plain number instead.
- I cannot find the seed field in Server Config. The exact field label can vary slightly between panel versions. If you cannot find it, check the File Manager for a config file and look for a seed-related value there. Alternatively, contact RiverHosting support and we can help you locate it.
- I want to go back to my old world. Go to the Backups tab, find the backup you created before the change, and restore it. This will bring back your previous world files.
