How to Change the Seed for Your Core Keeper Server World
Learn how to change the world seed on your Core Keeper server from the RiverHosting panel so you and your friends can explore a brand new generated world.
Every Core Keeper world is shaped by its seed, a number that tells the game exactly how to generate the underground landscape, resources, and biomes. If you want a fresh start, a specific layout you have seen online, or simply a new map to explore, you can change the world seed directly from the RiverHosting panel without editing any files by hand.
This guide walks you through how to set a new seed and what to expect when the change takes effect.
Setting a new seed generates a completely new world. Any progress, structures, or items in your existing world will be lost. Make a backup before continuing if you want to keep your current world.
Before you start
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
- Make sure you have a backup of your current world if you want to save it. Go to Backups in the left-hand menu and create one before making any changes.
- Decide on the seed you want to use. You can enter any number, or leave the field empty to let the server generate a random seed on the next start.
- Let your players know the world will reset so they are not caught off guard.
Many Core Keeper communities share seeds online. You can search for seeds with specific biome layouts, boss locations, or rare resource spawns to find one that suits your group.
1. Open the Server Config page
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel and select your Core Keeper server.
- In the left-hand menu, click Server Config.
- Look for the world seed field. It may be labelled World Seed or simply Seed.
- Clear the existing value and type in the seed number you want to use. If you want a fully random world, leave the field blank or enter
0, which tells the server to pick a random seed automatically. - Click Save to apply your changes.
Core Keeper seeds are typically numerical. If you copy a seed from a community post, make sure it contains only numbers and no extra characters.
2. Delete the old world data
Changing the seed in Server Config tells the server which seed to use when it next creates a world. However, if old world data is still present on the server, the game may load that existing world instead of generating a new one.
To make sure the new seed takes effect, you need to remove the old world files first.
- In the left-hand menu, click Worlds & Saves.
- Find your current world and delete it, or use the File Manager to locate and remove the world data folder if the Worlds & Saves page does not show a delete option directly.
- Double-check that the old world files have been removed before restarting.
If you restart without removing the old world data, the server may ignore your new seed and continue loading the previous world. Always clear the old world files after changing the seed.
3. Restart the server to generate the new world
- Return to the main server page by clicking your server name at the top of the left-hand menu.
- Click Restart to reboot the server.
- Wait for the server to finish starting. You can watch the output in the Console tab to see when it is ready.
- Once the server is online, connect using your server details from the Connect page. The new world will be freshly generated using the seed you entered.
Once the server is back online, players can join and explore the new world generated from your chosen seed.
4. Note your seed for future reference
It is a good idea to write down or save the seed you are using, especially if you or your players want to recreate the world later or share it with others.
- You can find the active seed value at any time by returning to Server Config and checking the seed field.
- Keep a note of it somewhere easy to find, such as a shared note with your player group.
Troubleshooting
- The world did not change after restarting. This almost always means old world data is still present. Go to Worlds & Saves or the File Manager, remove the existing world files, and restart again.
- The server is not coming online after the restart. Check the Console tab for any error messages. If the server crashes on startup, the seed value may have been entered incorrectly. Return to Server Config and confirm the seed is a valid number.
- Players cannot connect after the world reset. Make sure the server is fully started by checking the Console. Then share the updated connection details from the Connect page, which shows the Game ID and other join information.
- I want to go back to my old world. If you made a backup before changing the seed, go to Backups and restore it to return to your previous world.
