How to Rename Your SCUM Server
Learn how to change your SCUM server name from the RiverHosting panel so your server stands out in the browser and is easy for your friends to find.
Your SCUM server name is the first thing players see when they browse for a server. Changing it to something recognizable makes it much easier for your friends to find you in the server list, and it gives your community a distinct identity right from the start.
This guide walks you through how to update your server name from the RiverHosting panel in just a few steps.
Before you start
- You need an active SCUM server on RiverHosting. If you do not have one yet, visit riverhosting.com to get started.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
- Make sure your server is stopped before making changes. You can stop it using the red Stop button at the top of your server page.
Changing your server name while the server is running may cause the old name to remain until the next restart. Stop the server first to make sure the change takes effect cleanly.
1. How to change your SCUM server name from Server Config
The RiverHosting panel includes a built-in Server Config page for SCUM. This is the easiest way to update your server name without editing any files manually.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
- Click on your SCUM server from the server list.
- In the left-hand menu, click Server Config.
- Find the server name field. It is usually labelled something like Server Name or Name.
- Clear the current name and type the new name you want to use.
- Click the Save button to apply your changes.
- Head back to the main server page and click Start to restart your server.
Once your server is back online, the new name will appear in the SCUM server browser for players to find.
2. How to verify your new server name is showing correctly
After your server has finished starting up, it is a good idea to confirm the name change has taken effect.
- Open SCUM on your PC.
- Go to the server browser and search for your new server name.
- If you do not see it right away, wait a minute or two for the server list to refresh and search again.
Server browser lists can sometimes take a few minutes to update after a restart. If your new name does not appear immediately, give it a moment and try the search again.
Troubleshooting
- The old name is still showing. Make sure you saved your changes in the Server Config page before restarting. Go back to Server Config and confirm the new name is saved correctly.
- The server name is not showing up in the browser at all. Check that your server has fully started by looking at the console output on your server page. If you see errors, check that your Server Config settings are valid.
- Special characters in the name are causing problems. Some characters like quotes or backslashes can break the server config. Try using plain letters, numbers, and spaces only.
- Changes do not seem to save. Make sure you are clicking the Save button on the Server Config page and not just navigating away. If problems continue, try clearing the field and re-entering the name before saving again.
