How to Change the Notifications Settings on Your SCUM Server
Learn how to configure in-game notifications on your SCUM server from the RiverHosting panel so your players always see the right messages at the right time.
SCUM lets you send automated notifications to players while they are on your server. These messages can welcome new players, remind your community about server rules, announce upcoming restarts, or share any information you want. You can manage all of this directly from the RiverHosting panel without editing any files by hand.
Before you start
- Make sure your SCUM server is set up and showing in the RiverHosting panel.
- You need owner or admin access to the server to change notification settings.
- Your server does not need to be stopped to update notifications, but a restart may be required for some changes to take effect.
Before you open the panel, think about what you want to tell players. A short welcome message and a rule reminder are a great starting point.
1. Open the Notifications page
The Notifications page is a dedicated section in the left-hand menu of your SCUM server. Here is how to get there:
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel.
- Select your SCUM server from your server list.
- In the left-hand menu, click Notifications.
The Notifications page will load and show you the options available for configuring automated messages on your server.
2. Configure your notification messages
On the Notifications page, you can set up the messages you want your server to broadcast to players. These are typically timed announcements that repeat at set intervals while the server is running.
- Review any existing notification entries that may already be configured.
- Add a new notification by filling in the message text you want players to see. Keep messages short and clear so they are easy to read in the game chat.
- Set the interval for how often the message should appear. For example, a rule reminder might be shown every 30 minutes, while a welcome message could fire more frequently.
- If you have multiple notifications, arrange them in the order that makes the most sense for your players.
- When you are done, save your changes using the save button on the page.
Some notification changes take effect immediately, but others may only apply after your server is restarted. If you do not see your new messages appearing in game, try restarting the server from the Console page.
3. Restart your server to apply the changes
To make sure all your notification settings are active, restart your server after saving:
- In the left-hand menu, click Console.
- Use the Restart button at the top of the Console page to restart your server.
- Wait for the server to come back online, then join and confirm that your notifications appear as expected.
Restarting the server will disconnect any players who are currently online. If your server is busy, consider scheduling the restart during a quiet period.
Troubleshooting
- Notifications are not showing in game: Make sure you saved your changes before restarting. Go back to the Notifications page and confirm the messages are still there after the restart.
- Messages appear too often or not often enough: Review the interval setting for each notification and adjust it to a value that feels natural for your server population.
- The Notifications page is not visible in the menu: This page is only available on SCUM servers. If you are not seeing it, make sure you are viewing the correct server in the panel. If the problem continues, contact support.
- Changes were lost after a server update: Open the Notifications page again and re-enter your messages. Going forward, take note of your settings so you can restore them quickly if needed.
