How to Change the Economy Settings on Your SCUM Server

    3 min read·Updated Jul 22, 2026

Learn how to adjust the economy settings on your SCUM server from the RiverHosting panel so you can control trader prices, currency, and loot balance without editing files by hand.

SCUM has a built-in economy system that controls how traders work, how much items cost, and how currency flows around the server. By adjusting these settings, you can make your server feel more survival-focused, more generous, or anything in between. The RiverHosting panel gives you a dedicated Economy page so you can make these changes without touching any configuration files directly.

    Before you start

    • You need an active SCUM server with RiverHosting. If you do not have one yet, visit riverhosting.com to get started.
    • You will need access to your server in the RiverHosting panel.
    • Your server should be stopped or at least not have active players on it while you apply economy changes. Some settings only take effect after a restart.
    Save your progress first

Before changing economy settings, make sure your players have saved and logged out. Economy changes can affect item values and trader stock immediately after a restart, which may surprise players mid-session.

    1. Open the Economy page for your SCUM server

The Economy page is a dedicated section in your SCUM server menu. Here is how to get to it.

    1. Log in to the RiverHosting panel.
    2. Click on your SCUM server from the server list.
    3. In the left-hand menu, click Economy.

The Economy page loads with the settings your server is currently using. You can review and change values directly from this screen.

    No file editing needed

Everything on the Economy page is managed through the panel interface. You do not need to download or edit any configuration files manually.

    2. Adjust your economy settings

The Economy page includes options that control how the in-game economy behaves. Common settings you may want to change include trader prices, item availability, currency multipliers, and how quickly traders restock their inventory.

    1. Review the settings shown on the Economy page.
    2. Update the values you want to change. For example, you might lower prices to make items more affordable, or increase the restock timer to slow down trader refreshes.
    3. When you are happy with your changes, click Save (or the equivalent save button shown on the page).
    What do these settings affect?

Economy settings control things like how much in-game currency items sell or buy for, how often traders refresh their stock, and how the currency balance works across the server. Changing these can significantly shift how players interact with traders and loot.

    3. Restart your server to apply the changes

Most economy changes require a full server restart before they take effect. Saving the settings alone is not enough.

    1. Go back to the main server page by clicking your server name or the home icon in the panel.
    2. Click the Restart button to restart your server.
    3. Wait for the server to come back online. This usually takes a minute or two.
    4. Once the server is running, log in to SCUM and check that the economy behaves as expected.
    Changes applied

If your server starts up without errors and the economy behaves the way you configured it, your changes were applied successfully.

    Troubleshooting

    • The economy does not seem to have changed. Make sure you clicked Save on the Economy page before restarting. If you navigated away without saving, the changes were not kept.
    • Trader prices look wrong or unexpected. Double-check the values you entered. Some fields use multipliers rather than fixed prices, so a value of 2.0 means double the default price, not a price of 2 currency units.
    • The server crashed after changing economy settings. Try reverting one change at a time to identify which setting caused the problem. You can also check the Console page in the panel for error messages that point to the issue.
    • Players are reporting items are too cheap or too expensive. You can return to the Economy page at any time and fine-tune the values. Restart the server again after each adjustment.
    • The Economy page is not visible in the menu. Make sure you are looking at a SCUM server. The Economy page is specific to SCUM and will not appear on other game servers.
