How to Configure Your Satisfactory Server Settings from the Panel

    4 min read·Updated Jul 21, 2026

Learn how to adjust your Satisfactory server settings from the RiverHosting panel so you and your friends can play exactly the way you want.

Satisfactory is a factory-building game that works best when the server is set up the way your group wants it. Whether you need to tweak the session name, adjust auto-pause behaviour, or change other server-level options, the RiverHosting panel gives you a straightforward way to do it without touching any files manually.

This guide walks you through the main ways to configure your Satisfactory server from the panel.

    Before you start

    • Make sure your Satisfactory server is set up and showing in the RiverHosting panel.
    • You will need to be the server owner or a subuser with permission to change settings.
    • Some changes require a server restart to take effect. Let your players know before applying changes during an active session.
    Save your progress first

Before changing any server settings, make sure your in-game factory progress has been saved. Some configuration changes trigger a restart, which ends the current session.

    1. How to edit server settings using the Startup tab

Satisfactory does not have a dedicated Settings page in the panel menu, so the main place to adjust server launch options is the Startup tab. This is where you can change key settings that are passed to the server when it starts.

    1. Log in to the RiverHosting panel.
    2. Click on your Satisfactory server from the server list.
    3. In the left-hand menu, click Startup.
    4. You will see a list of startup variables. These control things like the server name displayed in the game's server browser, and other launch-time options.
    5. Click into the field you want to change and update the value.
    6. When you are done, scroll down and click Save if prompted, or your changes are saved automatically as you update each field.
    7. Restart the server for the new settings to take effect. You can do this by clicking Restart at the top of the page.
    What can you change here?

Common startup variables for Satisfactory include the session name (how your server appears to players) and options that control server behaviour at launch. The exact fields shown depend on how your server is configured.

    2. How to use the Console to apply in-game server commands

Some Satisfactory server options can be changed at runtime using the in-panel Console, without restarting the server. This is useful for commands that take effect immediately.

    1. In the left-hand menu, click Console.
    2. Wait for the server to be fully online. You will see the live server output in the console window.
    3. Type your command into the input field at the bottom and press Enter to send it.
    4. Watch the console output to confirm the command was accepted.
    Satisfactory console commands

Satisfactory's dedicated server supports a set of server-side commands. Common examples include commands to check server status or manage active sessions. Refer to the official Satisfactory dedicated server documentation for a full list of supported commands.

    3. How to edit server configuration files manually

If you need to change a setting that is not exposed in the Startup tab, you can edit the server's configuration files directly using the File Manager. Satisfactory stores its server settings in files inside the server data folder.

    Be careful when editing files

Editing configuration files manually can break your server if values are entered incorrectly. Always take a backup before making changes. If something goes wrong, you can restore from the backup.

    1. In the left-hand menu, click Files to open the File Manager.
    2. Navigate to the folder that contains your Satisfactory server configuration. This is typically found under a path like FactoryGame/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/ inside your server files.
    3. Click on the configuration file you want to edit, such as Game.ini or Engine.ini.
    4. Make your changes carefully. Match the format already used in the file.
    5. Click Save to apply your changes.
    6. Restart the server so the updated settings are loaded.
Not sure which file to edit?

If you are unsure which configuration file controls the setting you need, search for that setting name in the Satisfactory community wiki or the official dedicated server documentation. This will tell you which file and section to look in.

    4. How to take a backup before making changes

It is a good habit to create a backup before changing any server settings, especially when editing configuration files. This way you can quickly roll back if something does not work as expected.

    1. In the left-hand menu, click Backups.
    2. Click Create backup.
    3. Wait for the backup to complete. It will appear in the list when it is ready.
    4. You can now make your configuration changes knowing you have a restore point.
    Backup created

Once your backup appears in the list, you are safe to make changes. If anything goes wrong, you can restore from this backup in just a few clicks.

    Troubleshooting

    • My changes did not take effect. Make sure you restarted the server after saving your changes. Many settings only load at startup.
    • The server stopped working after I edited a file. Check the Console for error messages. Restore your latest backup from the Backups tab if needed.
    • I cannot find the configuration file in the File Manager. The file may only be created after the server has been started at least once. Start the server, let it run for a minute, then stop it and check the file path again.
    • My session name is not updating. Make sure you updated the correct startup variable in the Startup tab and that you have fully restarted the server, not just stopped and started it quickly.
    • Players cannot see my server in the browser. Check your server's connection details on the Network page in the panel. Make sure the server is running and that players are using the correct address and port.
