How to Enable and Configure a Password on Your Palworld Server
Learn how to set a password on your Palworld server using the RiverHosting panel so only the players you invite can join your world.
By default, your Palworld server is open to anyone who knows its address. Setting a password is the quickest way to keep your world private and make sure only your friends and trusted players can get in.
The RiverHosting panel gives you a dedicated Server Config page for Palworld where you can set or change your password in just a few clicks, without editing any files by hand.
Before you start
- You need an active Palworld server on RiverHosting. Log in to the panel at panel.riverhosting.com if you have not already.
- Make sure your server is not in the middle of a save or a critical in-game event before making changes, as you will need to restart the server for the password to take effect.
- Let any current players know before you apply the password, as they will be asked to enter it the next time they join.
Tell your friends the password before you restart the server. They will need it the moment they try to reconnect.
1. How to set a password on your Palworld server
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
- Click on your Palworld server from the server list.
- In the left-hand menu, click Server Config.
- Look for the server password field. It may be labelled something like Server Password or Admin Password. The server password is what players enter to join, so make sure you are editing the correct field.
- Type your chosen password into the field. Use something easy to share with your friends but not easy for strangers to guess.
- Click Save to apply the change.
- Restart your server so the new password takes effect. You can do this by clicking Restart at the top of your server page.
Your password will not be active until you restart the server. Players who try to join before you restart will still be able to connect without a password.
2. How to remove or change your Palworld server password
If you want to open your server back up to the public, or just change the existing password, the steps are nearly the same.
- Go to Server Config in the left-hand menu.
- Find the server password field.
- To remove the password, clear the field so it is completely empty.
- To change the password, replace the existing value with your new password.
- Click Save.
- Restart the server from the top of your server page for the change to take effect.
Leaving the password field blank will make your server publicly joinable by anyone. Only do this if you are happy for anyone to find and join your server.
Troubleshooting
- Players are still connecting without a password. Make sure you clicked Save before restarting. If the issue continues, try a full server stop and start rather than a quick restart.
- The password is not working for your friends. Double-check that the password was saved correctly in Server Config and that no extra spaces were accidentally added at the start or end.
- You have forgotten your own password. Go back to Server Config and view the password field. You can replace it with a new one at any time.
- The Server Config page is not saving. Check that your server is in a running or stopped state, not stuck mid-start. Try refreshing the panel page and saving again.
