How to Change the Max Player Slot Count on Your Core Keeper Server
Learn how to change the maximum number of players allowed on your Core Keeper server using the RiverHosting panel so your world is open to exactly the right group.
Core Keeper is a cooperative mining and exploration game, and controlling how many players can join your world at once is one of the most common things server owners want to adjust. Whether you want a small private session with a few friends or a larger open world, the RiverHosting panel makes it straightforward to change the player slot limit without editing any files by hand.
Before you start
- You need an active Core Keeper server on your RiverHosting account.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com before following these steps.
- Your server must be stopped before saving changes to the player slot setting. The panel will prompt you if a restart is needed.
Changing server settings and restarting your server will interrupt any active sessions. Make sure your players have saved and disconnected before you apply changes.
1. How to change the max player slot count
The quickest way to change the player limit is through the Server Config page in the RiverHosting panel. This is a built-in editor that lets you adjust common Core Keeper server settings without touching any config files directly.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel.
- Click on your Core Keeper server from the server list.
- In the left-hand menu, click Server Config.
- Look for the Max Players setting (sometimes labelled as the maximum player count or player slots depending on the current version).
- Enter the number of players you want to allow. Core Keeper supports up to 8 players in a world by default, but your hosting plan may affect the practical upper limit.
- Click Save to apply your changes.
- Restart your server using the Restart button so the new setting takes effect.
Running a smaller player count, such as 4 to 6, is usually a better experience for most players. Larger sessions can put more load on the server, especially in heavily explored worlds.
2. How to verify the change took effect
After restarting, it is worth confirming the new limit is active before your friends try to connect.
- Open the Console from the left-hand menu.
- Wait for the server to finish starting up. You will see startup messages appear in the console output.
- Try connecting to your server in-game. If you previously hit the player cap and were turned away, you should now be able to join with the updated limit.
- You can also check the Connect page in the left-hand menu to confirm your server details are still correct, including your Game ID and connection information.
If you or your players are unsure how to connect after a restart, head to the Connect page in the panel. It shows your Game ID, IP address, port, and any password you have set, all in one place.
Troubleshooting
- The player limit does not seem to have changed. Make sure you clicked Save on the Server Config page and then fully restarted the server. A stop and start cycle is required for most setting changes to apply.
- Players are still being rejected after raising the limit. Double-check the value you entered in Server Config is saved correctly. Open Server Config again and confirm the number is what you set.
- The server is running slowly with more players. More concurrent players generate more world activity. If performance drops, consider reducing the view distance or lowering the player count slightly to reduce the load.
- I cannot find the Max Players field. If the Server Config page does not show the setting you expect, try checking the Startup tab in the left-hand menu. Some settings may be configured as startup variables rather than in the main config editor.
