    3 min read·Updated Jul 22, 2026

Learn how to update your Core Keeper server to the latest version from the RiverHosting panel so your players can always connect and enjoy new content.

Keeping your Core Keeper server up to date means your players can always connect, and you will not miss out on new content, bug fixes, or balance improvements. The RiverHosting panel makes it straightforward to update your server without needing to touch any files manually.

This guide walks you through how to check your current version and apply the latest update in just a few steps.

    Before you start

    • You need an active Core Keeper server on your RiverHosting account. Log in at panel.riverhosting.com to access it.
    • Let your players know the server will be briefly offline during the update. Core Keeper updates are usually quick, but it is good practice to give people a heads up.
    • Consider taking a backup of your world before updating. If you want to do that first, go to the Backups tab on your server page and create a new backup before continuing.
    Back up before you update

A backup takes only a moment and means you can roll back your world if something unexpected happens after the update.

    1. How to update your Core Keeper server to the latest version

RiverHosting handles Core Keeper server updates through the panel. When a new version of Core Keeper is released, you can apply it by reinstalling or updating the server software from the Startup area. Here is how to do it:

    1. Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
    2. Click on your Core Keeper server to open its page.
    3. Stop the server by clicking the Stop button at the top of the page. Wait for the server to fully stop before continuing.
    4. In the left-hand menu, click Startup.
    5. On the Startup page, look for the version or branch setting. This controls which version of Core Keeper the server downloads and runs when it starts.
    6. If you want the latest stable release, make sure the value is set to the recommended or latest option. If it is already set correctly, no change is needed here.
    7. Go back to the main server page and click Start. The panel will download the latest Core Keeper server files automatically as the server starts up.
    8. Watch the Console tab to follow the update progress. You will see the download and installation messages appear in real time.
    9. Once the server finishes starting, it is running on the updated version and your players can connect as normal.
    How updates work

When you start your server, the panel checks for and downloads the latest version of the Core Keeper server software automatically based on your Startup settings. You do not need to upload any files yourself.

    2. How to confirm the server is running the correct version

After the update, it is a good idea to confirm that the server is now on the version you expected. You can do this quickly from the Console tab.

    1. In the left-hand menu, click Console.
    2. Review the startup output that appeared when the server last launched. The server version is usually printed near the top of the log as the server starts.
    3. Compare the version number shown in the console to the latest version listed on the official Core Keeper news or patch note pages.

If the version shown matches the latest release, your update was successful.

    Update complete

Once the version in the console matches the latest Core Keeper release, your server is fully up to date and ready for players.

    Troubleshooting

    • The server starts but players cannot connect after the update. Make sure the players are also running the latest version of Core Keeper on their own machines. The client and server versions must match for players to join.
    • The console shows errors during startup. Stop the server, check the Startup tab to confirm your settings look correct, then try starting the server again. If errors continue, a backup restore may help get you back to a working state.
    • The update does not seem to have applied. Stop the server, visit the Startup tab, confirm the version or branch field is set to the latest option, save any changes, and then start the server again.
    • The server takes longer than usual to start after an update. This is normal. The panel may be downloading updated files, which can take a minute or two depending on the size of the update.
    • Your world data seems different after the update. Stop the server immediately and restore from the backup you made before updating. Then visit riverhosting.com/support for help.
