How to Choose the Active Map on Your Conan Exiles Server

3 min read·Updated Nov 4, 2026

Learn how to pick the active map for your Conan Exiles server from the Map page in the RiverHosting panel, then restart so your players join the right one.

Your Conan Exiles server loads one map at a time. You choose it on the Map page of the RiverHosting panel, then restart the server so the choice takes effect. This guide shows you how, and how to protect your progress before you change anything.

Before you start

  • You need access to your server in the RiverHosting panel.
  • The Exiled Lands is the free base game map, so everyone can join it.
  • The Isle of Siptah (DLC) option can only be joined by players who own the Isle of Siptah DLC on Steam. You, as the host, do not need to own it.
  • Restarting disconnects everyone who is online, so pick a quiet time and warn your players first.
Take a backup first

How the game keeps your existing world after a map change can depend on the game version you are running, so do not assume your buildings will be untouched. Open the Backups page and click Create Backup before you change the map. That gives you a safe way back.

1. How to change the active map

  1. Log in to the RiverHosting panel and open your Conan Exiles server.
  2. In the left-hand menu, under GAME, click Map.
  3. On the Active Map card, open the Map dropdown.
  4. Choose Exiled Lands or Isle of Siptah (DLC).
  5. Click Save Map.

The panel shows the message "Map saved. Restart to load it." You do not need to stop the server before saving. The new map is only used the next time the server restarts.

Siptah needs the DLC

If you choose Isle of Siptah, every player who joins must own the Isle of Siptah DLC on Steam. Players without it cannot connect. Tell your community before you switch.

2. How to restart the server so the new map loads

  1. On the Map page, click the Restart button in the information banner. You can also use the Restart button on the Console page, or the Quick Console (the >_ tab on the right edge of the screen).
  2. Wait until the status badge at the top of the page shows ONLINE.
First start can be slow

Conan Exiles can take a while to start, especially when a different map loads. Give it a few minutes before you assume something is wrong.

3. How to join after switching

  1. Click the IP chip at the top of any server page to copy your server address.
  2. In Conan Exiles, use Direct Connect and paste the address.
  3. If your server has a join password, enter it when asked. The join password is the Server Password on the Startup tab, and it is different from the admin password.
Use Direct Connect

The in-game server browser is often slow to show new servers. Direct Connect always works.

4. How to go back to your previous map

  1. Open the Map page again.
  2. Pick the other map in the Map dropdown and click Save Map.
  3. Click Restart.

Once the server is online, check that your world looks the way you expect. If it does not, restore the backup you made earlier.

Restoring replaces your files

Restoring a backup stops the server, deletes all current files and replaces them with the backup. It cannot be undone, so only restore when you are sure.

Troubleshooting

  • The map did not change. Saving the map is not enough. Restart the server so the new map loads.
  • Players cannot join the Isle of Siptah. They must own the Isle of Siptah DLC on Steam. Switch back to Exiled Lands if you want everyone to be able to join.
  • My server is not in the in-game server list. Use Direct Connect with the address from the IP chip.
  • The dropdown shows Exiled Lands but I expected something else. If the map value was set by hand and is not one of the two options, the dropdown shows Exiled Lands. It is only overwritten if you click Save Map.
  • My world does not look right after the switch. Open the Backups page and restore the backup you created before the change.
