    2 min read·Updated Jul 22, 2026

Learn how to change your 7 Days To Die server name from the RiverHosting panel so players see the right name when browsing the server list.

Your 7 Days To Die server name is what players see when they browse public server lists or when they share your server with friends. If you want to update it to something more personal or easier to recognise, you can do that quickly from the RiverHosting panel without editing any files manually.

    Before you start

    • You need an active 7 Days To Die server on RiverHosting. If you do not have one yet, visit riverhosting.com to get started.
    • Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
    • Your server must be stopped before you save changes to the server name. The panel will apply your changes when the server next starts.
    Stop the server first

Changes to the server name take effect on the next startup. Stop your server before making changes so the new name loads cleanly.

    1. How to change your server name from the Server Config page

The easiest way to rename your 7 Days To Die server is through the built-in Server Config page in the panel. This lets you change the server name and other common settings without touching any files.

    1. Log in to the RiverHosting panel.
    2. Click on your 7 Days To Die server from the server list.
    3. In the left-hand menu, click Server Config.
    4. Look for the server name field. It is usually labelled something like Server Name or ServerName.
    5. Clear the existing name and type in the new name you want your server to have.
    6. Click Save or the equivalent save button on the page to apply your changes.
    7. Go back to the main server page and click Start to start your server with the new name.
    Name updated

Once your server has started, your new server name will be visible to anyone browsing the server list or connecting directly.

    2. How to verify the name change worked

After your server has started, it is worth confirming the name change took effect before sharing it with your players.

    1. Open 7 Days To Die on your own computer.
    2. Go to Play and then Connect to Server or browse the server list.
    3. Search for your server by the new name you set.
    4. If it appears with the correct name, everything worked as expected.
    Server list refresh

Server lists can take a few minutes to refresh after a restart. If you do not see your server immediately, wait a moment and search again.

    Troubleshooting

    • The server name did not change. Make sure you clicked Save on the Server Config page before restarting. If you navigated away without saving, your change was not kept.
    • The old name still appears in the server list. Server browser lists can cache entries for a few minutes. Wait a short time and refresh the search.
    • The Server Config page does not show a name field. Try scrolling down the page, as the field may be further down the list of settings. If you still cannot find it, contact RiverHosting support for guidance.
    • The server will not start after the change. Go to the Console page from the left-hand menu to check for any error messages. If the name contains special characters, try removing them and using only letters, numbers, and spaces.
