How to Change the Admin Interfaces Settings on Your 7 Days To Die Server
Learn how to configure the Admin Interfaces settings on your 7 Days To Die server from the RiverHosting panel so you can control remote access tools without editing any files manually.
7 Days To Die includes a built-in system for remote admin tools, sometimes called Admin Interfaces. This controls how external tools and consoles can connect to your server for administration purposes. The RiverHosting panel gives you a dedicated Admin Interfaces page so you can configure these settings directly, without needing to open any files or use the command line.
This guide walks you through finding and using the Admin Interfaces page on your 7 Days To Die server.
Before you start
- You need an active 7 Days To Die server with RiverHosting.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
- Make sure your server is not in the middle of a session with active players before making changes to admin interface settings, as a restart may be required for changes to take effect.
Changes to the Admin Interfaces settings usually require a server restart before they take effect. Let your players know before restarting.
1. How to open the Admin Interfaces page
The Admin Interfaces page is found in the left-hand menu of your server page in the RiverHosting panel.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
- Select your 7 Days To Die server from the server list.
- In the left-hand menu, click Admin Interfaces.
You will see the configuration options for the admin interface tools available on your server.
The Telnet interface is commonly used for lightweight admin tools. The web dashboard (if enabled) allows browser-based access. Check the documentation for any third-party admin tool you want to use to find out which interface it needs.
2. How to configure the Admin Interfaces settings
Once you are on the Admin Interfaces page, you can adjust the settings to match your needs.
- Review the available interface options shown on the page. These typically include settings for enabling or disabling individual admin interfaces, setting port numbers, and configuring passwords for each interface.
- Enable or disable each interface using the toggle or checkbox provided.
- If an interface has a port field, enter the port number you want to use. You can check which ports your server already uses on the Network page in the left-hand menu.
- If an interface requires a password, enter a strong password in the password field. Do not leave admin interface passwords blank or set them to something easy to guess.
- When you are happy with your changes, click the Save button at the bottom of the page.
Anyone who knows the admin interface password and port can connect to your server remotely. Use a unique, strong password and only share it with trusted admins.
3. How to restart your server after saving changes
Most Admin Interfaces changes do not apply until the server has been restarted.
- In the left-hand menu, click Console.
- Use the power controls at the top of the Console page to restart your server. Click the restart button and confirm when prompted.
- Wait for the server to finish starting up. You can watch the console output to see when it is ready.
Once the server has restarted, your Admin Interfaces settings will be active and any compatible admin tools can connect using the details you configured.
Troubleshooting
- The Admin Interfaces page is not visible in the menu. Make sure you are looking at a 7 Days To Die server. This page is specific to 7 Days To Die and will not appear on other game servers.
- An admin tool cannot connect after saving. Check that you restarted the server after saving your changes. Also confirm the port and password in your admin tool match what you set in the panel exactly.
- I am not sure which port to use. Open the Network page in the left-hand menu to see the ports already assigned to your server. Make sure the admin interface port does not clash with an existing port.
- Changes do not seem to save. Make sure you clicked the Save button before leaving the Admin Interfaces page. If the problem continues, try refreshing the page and entering the values again.
- The server will not start after changes. If the server fails to start, go back to the Admin Interfaces page and check that you have not left required fields blank or entered an invalid port number. A port conflict with another service can also prevent startup.
