How to Use the In-Panel RCON Console on Your V Rising Server
Learn how to use the built-in RCON console on your V Rising server from the RiverHosting panel so you can run admin commands without any extra tools.
V Rising gives server owners a set of admin commands that let you manage your world, adjust settings, and help players without stopping the server. The RiverHosting panel includes a built-in RCON console so you can send these commands directly from your browser, with no extra software needed.
Before you start
- You need an active V Rising server on RiverHosting. Log in to the panel at panel.riverhosting.com to get started.
- RCON must be enabled on your server. If you have not set up RCON yet, you will need to enable it in your server settings before the console will connect. See the section below for details.
- You will need your RCON password. If you set one in your server config, have it ready.
RCON stands for Remote Console. It is a way to send commands to your running server from outside the game. The RiverHosting panel connects to it for you, so you do not need any extra apps.
1. How to enable RCON on your V Rising server
Before you can use the RCON console, RCON needs to be turned on in your server configuration. Here is how to check and enable it.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel and open your V Rising server.
- Click Server Config in the left-hand menu.
- Look for the RCON settings section. You should see options to enable RCON and to set an RCON password.
- Make sure RCON is enabled and enter a strong password. Write this password down because you will need it when connecting through the console.
- Save your changes and restart your server so the new settings take effect.
Anyone who knows your RCON password can run admin commands on your server. Use a password that is hard to guess and do not share it publicly.
2. How to open the RCON console in the panel
Once RCON is enabled on your server, you can connect to it directly from the RiverHosting panel.
- Open your V Rising server in the RiverHosting panel.
- Click Admins & Bans in the left-hand menu to confirm your own account has admin rights on the server. This is separate from RCON but useful to set up at the same time.
- Now look for the RCON option in the left-hand menu. Click it to open the in-panel RCON console.
- If prompted, enter your RCON password and click Connect.
- Once connected, you will see a command input field where you can start sending commands to your server.
The RCON console only works when your server is online and fully started. If the server is stopped or still starting up, the connection will fail. Wait until the server is fully running before trying to connect.
3. How to run commands using the RCON console
With the RCON console open and connected, you can type commands directly into the input field and press Enter to send them. Here are some commonly used V Rising admin commands to get you started.
adminauth- Grant yourself admin rights in the game session.bancharacter <name>- Ban a player by their character name.unbancharacter <name>- Remove a ban from a player.kick <name>- Kick a player from the server.listusers- Show all players currently connected.save- Manually trigger a world save.shutdown- Gracefully shut down the server.
Type your command into the input box at the bottom of the RCON console and press Enter. The server's response will appear in the console output above.
V Rising command syntax can change between game updates. If a command does not work as expected, check the latest community documentation for the current version of V Rising to confirm the correct syntax.
4. How to manage bans from the Admins and Bans page
For common tasks like banning or unbanning players, you may find it easier to use the dedicated Admins & Bans page rather than typing commands by hand.
- Open your V Rising server in the panel.
- Click Admins & Bans in the left-hand menu.
- From here you can add or remove admins and manage your ban list without needing to type RCON commands manually.
The RCON console is great for one-off commands or urgent actions mid-session. The Admins & Bans page is better for ongoing admin and ban list management. Both tools work well together.
Troubleshooting
- The RCON console says it cannot connect. Make sure your server is fully started and that RCON is enabled in your Server Config. A server that is still loading or has crashed will not accept RCON connections.
- The connection is refused after entering the password. Double-check that the password in the RCON console matches exactly what you set in your Server Config. Passwords are case-sensitive.
- Commands are not doing anything. Make sure you are fully connected before sending commands. Look for a confirmation message in the console output after you connect. If there is no response at all, the connection may have timed out.
- The RCON page is not visible in the menu. RCON access may depend on your user permissions. If you are a subuser on the server, ask the server owner to grant you the correct access level from the Users page.
- A command returns an error about permissions. Some commands require you to be an in-game admin as well. Use the Admins & Bans page to make sure your account is on the admin list.
