How to Use the In-Panel RCON Console on Your Rust Server

    3 min read·Updated Jul 22, 2026

Learn how to use the built-in RCON console on your Rust server in the RiverHosting panel so you can run admin commands and manage your server without any extra tools.

The RiverHosting panel includes a built-in RCON console for your Rust server. This lets you run admin commands, manage players, adjust server settings, and more, all from your browser without needing any third-party RCON tools.

This guide walks you through finding and using the RCON page on your Rust server so you can take full control without any extra setup.

    Before you start

    • You need an active Rust server on RiverHosting. Log in at panel.riverhosting.com to access it.
    • Your server must be running before you can send RCON commands. If it is stopped, start it first from the main server page.
    • Make sure you have an admin password set on your server. Without one, RCON will not accept connections. You can set this from the Server Config page in the left-hand menu.
    Server must be online

The RCON console only works while your Rust server is running. If your server is offline, start it before trying to send commands.

    1. How to open the RCON console

    1. Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
    2. Click on your Rust server from the server list.
    3. In the left-hand menu, click RCON.
    4. The RCON page will open. You will see a text input at the bottom of the page where you can type commands.
    5. Type a command into the input field and press Enter or click the send button to run it.
    6. The response from the server will appear in the output area above.
    Check the output area

After sending a command, always check the output area for confirmation or error messages. This helps you know whether the command worked as expected.

    2. Common RCON commands for Rust

Here are some useful commands you can run from the RCON console on your Rust server.

    • status - Shows connected players, their Steam IDs, and basic server info.
    • say Hello everyone! - Sends a message to all players in the server chat.
    • kick SteamID64 reason - Kicks a player from the server by their Steam ID.
    • ban SteamID64 reason - Bans a player from the server.
    • unban SteamID64 - Removes a ban from a player.
    • server.save - Forces an immediate save of the server world.
    • server.writecfg - Writes the current server configuration to disk.
    • ownerid SteamID64 "Name" "Reason" - Gives a player server owner permissions.
    • moderatorid SteamID64 "Name" "Reason" - Gives a player moderator permissions.
    • removeowner SteamID64 - Removes owner permissions from a player.
    • removemoderator SteamID64 - Removes moderator permissions from a player.
    • global.teleport2me SteamID64 - Teleports a player to your location (requires admin permissions in-game).
    • global.ban SteamID64 "Reason" - Bans a player with a quoted reason.
    Where to find Steam IDs

To use commands that require a Steam ID, you can find a player's Steam ID by running the status command first. The output will list all connected players with their Steam IDs.

    3. How to set an RCON password for your Rust server

If you have not set an RCON password yet, or you want to change it, you can do this from the Server Config page.

    1. In the left-hand menu, click Server Config.
    2. Find the RCON password field. It is usually labelled something like RCON Password.
    3. Enter a strong password that only you and trusted admins know.
    4. Save your changes.
    5. Restart your server for the new password to take effect.
    Keep your RCON password private

Anyone who knows your RCON password can run commands on your server. Never share it publicly, and change it immediately if you think it has been compromised.

    Troubleshooting

    • The RCON page shows no response after sending a command. Check that your server is online. If the server stopped mid-session, restart it and try again.
    • Commands are being rejected or returning errors. Make sure your RCON password is set correctly in Server Config, and that the server has been restarted after any password change.
    • I cannot find the RCON page in the menu. Make sure you are on a Rust server. The RCON page is specific to supported games, and the menu options change depending on which game your server runs.
    • A command ran but nothing happened in-game. Some commands only take effect while players are connected, or require a save or restart to apply. Check the output for any error messages.
    • I accidentally gave the wrong player admin permissions. Run removeowner SteamID64 or removemoderator SteamID64 from the RCON console to remove their permissions, then use server.writecfg to save the change.
