How to Manage Worlds and Saves on Your V Rising Server

    4 min read·Updated Jul 21, 2026

Learn how to manage your V Rising server worlds and save files from the RiverHosting panel so your progress stays safe and your server is always ready to play.

V Rising saves your world as you and your players explore, build, and hunt. Knowing how to manage those save files from the RiverHosting panel means you can protect your progress, swap between worlds, and recover quickly if something goes wrong, all without needing to touch any files manually.

    Before you start

    • Make sure you have an active V Rising server with RiverHosting.
    • Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
    • Stop your server before making changes to worlds or save files. This prevents data from being written mid-operation, which can cause corruption.
    Stop your server first

Always stop your V Rising server before moving, deleting, or replacing save files. Making changes while the server is running can corrupt your world data.

    1. Finding your worlds and saves in the panel

The RiverHosting panel gives you a dedicated page for managing your V Rising worlds and save files. Here is how to get there:

    1. Log in to the panel at panel.riverhosting.com and open your V Rising server.
    2. In the left-hand menu, click Worlds & Saves.
    3. You will see a list of the save slots and world data currently stored on your server.
    What is a save slot?

V Rising stores your world progress in save slots. Each slot holds a separate world with its own state, players, and progress. You can have more than one slot at a time.

    2. Downloading a save file for safekeeping

Before making any big changes, it is a good idea to download a copy of your current save. You can do this using the File Manager.

    1. Stop your server.
    2. In the left-hand menu, click Files to open the File Manager.
    3. Navigate to the folder where your V Rising save files are stored. This is typically inside a Saves or Save Data folder within your server directory.
    4. Select the save folder you want to download.
    5. Right-click the folder and choose Download, or use the panel's compress and download option to get the files to your computer.
    Back up regularly

Downloading your save files manually is a great habit, but you can also use the Backups tab to create automatic backups of your entire server on a schedule. This gives you a safety net without any extra effort.

    3. Uploading a save file to your server

If you have a save file from a previous server, a local singleplayer game, or a backup, you can upload it to your RiverHosting V Rising server using the File Manager.

    1. Stop your server.
    2. In the left-hand menu, click Files.
    3. Navigate to the correct save folder on your server.
    4. Click Upload and select the save files or folder from your computer.
    5. Wait for the upload to finish, then start your server.
    Match the save format

Make sure the save files you upload match the format and version your server is running. Uploading a save from a newer game version to an older server version may cause problems.

    4. Deleting an old save

If you want to start fresh or remove an old save slot you no longer need, you can delete it through the File Manager.

    1. Stop your server.
    2. Open Files in the left-hand menu.
    3. Navigate to the save folder you want to remove.
    4. Select the folder and click Delete.
    5. Confirm the deletion when prompted.
    6. Start your server. It will generate a fresh world on the next launch if no other save is present.
    Deletion is permanent

Deleting a save folder removes it permanently from your server. Always download a copy first if you think you might want it later.

    5. Starting a fresh world

If you want to wipe your server and begin a brand new world, the cleanest approach is to remove the existing save data and let the server generate a new world on startup.

    1. Stop your server.
    2. Open Files and navigate to your save folder.
    3. Delete the save data you want to clear. If you want a full fresh start, remove all save content in that folder.
    4. If you want to change world generation settings before starting fresh, open Server Config from the left-hand menu and adjust the relevant settings there.
    5. Start your server. A new world will be generated automatically.
Adjust settings before the first start

If you plan to change any world settings such as difficulty or game rules, do it in Server Config or Game Rules before starting the server on a fresh world. Some settings only apply at world creation.

    Troubleshooting

    • My server is not loading my uploaded save. Check that the save files are in the correct folder path. The folder name and file names must match exactly what the server expects. Double-check the file structure matches a working save.
    • My world is corrupted after a crash. Restore from a recent backup using the Backups tab. If you do not have a backup, contact support as soon as possible before making further changes.
    • Players are spawning in the wrong location after a world change. This is normal after switching saves. Players may need to respawn or their character data may not be present in the new save.
    • The server is generating a new world instead of loading my save. Make sure the save files are in the correct directory and that the server configuration is pointing to the right save slot name.
    • I cannot find my save folder in the File Manager. Make sure the server has been started at least once so the folder structure is created. If you still cannot find it, contact RiverHosting support.
