How to Configure Your V Rising Game Rules from the Panel
Learn how to adjust your V Rising server's game rules from the RiverHosting panel so you can tailor the experience for your players without editing any files manually.
V Rising lets you shape a lot about how the game feels for your players, from blood drain rates and resource gather speeds to castle decay and PvP rules. The RiverHosting panel gives you a dedicated Game Rules page so you can adjust these settings quickly without touching any configuration files.
This guide walks you through finding and using the Game Rules page, explains what each major setting area covers, and helps you troubleshoot any issues that come up after saving a change.
Before you start
- You need an active V Rising server on RiverHosting. You can manage it at panel.riverhosting.com.
- Make sure your server is stopped or has no active players before making changes. Some settings only take effect after a restart.
- If you want to keep a copy of your current setup before making big changes, create a backup first from the Backups tab.
If you are planning to change several settings at once, take a quick backup first. That way you can restore your previous setup if something does not work the way you expected.
1. How to open the Game Rules page
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
- Select your V Rising server from the server list.
- In the left-hand menu, click Game Rules.
- The Game Rules page will load with all the available settings grouped into sections.
The Game Rules page is a built-in panel editor for your V Rising server's gameplay configuration. It replaces the need to edit the underlying JSON settings file by hand and presents the options in a readable form.
2. Understanding the main setting areas
The Game Rules page groups settings into a few broad areas. Here is what each one controls.
Gathering and crafting
These settings affect how quickly players collect resources and craft items. Raising the gather rate means players spend less time farming and more time building or fighting. Lowering it makes the world feel more survival-focused and slower-paced.
Combat and damage
You can adjust how much damage players deal to each other and to enemies, how quickly blood quality decays, and related combat pacing values. These are especially useful if you want a more casual server or a hardcore experience.
Castle and building
Settings here control how quickly castle hearts decay when players are offline, whether castle damage is enabled, and how the building experience works. If you run a PvE server and want permanent castles, you can turn castle decay off here.
PvP rules
You can enable or disable player-versus-player combat, set PvP time windows, and configure related options like castle raiding. These settings are key if you are running a PvP server with scheduled raid times or a strictly PvE community.
Other gameplay options
This area includes miscellaneous values such as blood essence drain rate, servant coffin limits, and similar fine-tuning options that affect the overall pace and feel of the server.
The exact list of options on the Game Rules page may change as V Rising receives updates. If you do not see a setting mentioned here, it may have moved or been renamed in a newer version.
3. How to change a game rule
- On the Game Rules page, find the setting you want to change. Settings are usually shown as sliders, toggle switches, or numeric input fields.
- Adjust the value to what you want. Most numeric fields accept decimal values, for example
1.5for one and a half times the normal rate. - Once you have made all your changes, scroll down and click the Save button (or the equivalent confirm button shown on your page).
- Restart your server so the new values take effect. You can do this from the Console page by clicking the restart button at the top of the page.
Most game rule changes only take effect after a full server restart. Players already in the game will be disconnected briefly when you restart, so let your players know in advance if the server is active.
4. How to reset game rules to default
If you have made changes that you want to undo and you do not have a backup, the simplest approach is to go back to the Game Rules page and manually set the values back to their defaults. The default value for most rate-based settings is 1, which means the standard unmodified rate.
If you took a backup before making changes, you can restore it from the Backups tab to roll everything back at once.
Restoring a backup will overwrite your current game rules and any other files included in that backup. Only restore a backup if you are happy to go back to the state the server was in at the time it was taken.
Troubleshooting
- Changes are not showing in game. Make sure you clicked Save on the Game Rules page and fully restarted the server afterwards. A simple server reload may not be enough.
- The Game Rules page shows an error when saving. Check that all numeric fields contain valid numbers and that no required field is left blank. Try refreshing the page and re-entering the value.
- Players are still seeing old values. Ask players to disconnect and reconnect after the server restarts. Some values are cached client-side and refresh on reconnect.
- A setting you expected to see is not listed. Some advanced settings may only be editable through the Server Config page or directly in the config file via the File Manager. Check the Server Config page first before going to the File Manager.
- The server will not start after saving changes. A value that is too high or too low can sometimes cause startup issues. Restore your last backup or manually reset the affected field to its default value of
