How to Connect to Your Squad Server

    3 min read·Updated Jul 21, 2026

Learn how to find your Squad server's connection details in the RiverHosting panel and get your players joined and into the fight quickly.

Once your Squad server is up and running, the next step is getting yourself and your players connected. This guide walks you through exactly where to find your server's connection details in the RiverHosting panel and how to join using the in-game server browser.

    Before you start

    • Your Squad server must be started. If it is still installing or shows as offline, wait for it to reach a running state before trying to connect.
    • Make sure you have Squad installed and up to date through Steam.
    • You will need your server's IP address and game port, both of which are available in the RiverHosting panel.
    Give it a moment

After starting your server for the first time, allow a minute or two for it to fully load before attempting to connect. Squad servers can take a little longer to initialise on first boot.

    1. Find your server's connection details

Your server's IP address and port are listed on the Network page in the RiverHosting panel.

    1. Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
    2. Click on your Squad server from the server list.
    3. In the left-hand menu, click Network.
    4. You will see your server's IP address and the game port listed here. Make a note of both, as you will need them to connect directly in Squad.
    Query port

You may also see a query port listed on the Network page. This is used by the Steam server browser to display your server in listings. You do not need the query port to connect directly, but it is useful if you want your server to appear in the in-game browser for others to find.

    2. Connect to your server from inside Squad

Squad lets you connect directly to a server using its IP address and port. This is the fastest and most reliable method.

    1. Open Squad and reach the main menu.
    2. Click Browse Servers at the top of the screen.
    3. In the server browser, look for the Direct Connect option. It is usually a button in the bottom-left or bottom area of the server browser window.
    4. Enter your server's IP address and game port in the format IP:Port, for example 123.45.67.89:7787.
    5. If you have set a password on your server, you will be prompted to enter it before joining.
    6. Click Connect and Squad will place you directly into your server.
    Favourite your server

Once you have connected at least once, you can favourite your server inside the browser so you and your players can find it quickly next time without needing to type the IP again.

    3. Find your server in the in-game server browser

If you would prefer players to search for your server by name rather than connecting directly, they can use the Squad server browser to find it.

    1. Open Squad and click Browse Servers.
    2. In the search bar at the top of the browser, type the name of your server.
    3. Your server should appear in the results. Click it and then click Join.
    Server name

Your server's name is set in the Server Config page in the left-hand menu of the RiverHosting panel. If you have not customised it yet, it may show the default name assigned during setup.

    4. Set up a custom subdomain for easier joining

If you would like players to connect using a memorable address instead of a raw IP and port, you can set up a custom subdomain through the RiverHosting panel.

    1. In the left-hand menu of your server page, click Subdomain Manager.
    2. Choose a subdomain name and select one of the available base domains: playriver.net, playminecraft.pro, or playriver.xyz.
    3. Save your subdomain. Once it is active, players can use it as the address when connecting directly in Squad, though they will still need to include the port number.
    Example subdomain

A subdomain like myfob.playriver.net is much easier to share with your squad than a raw IP address.

    Troubleshooting

    • Server does not appear in the browser: Make sure your server is fully started and has been running for a few minutes. It can take a short time for it to register with the Steam server list.
    • Connection timed out: Double-check the IP address and port from the Network page. A single digit wrong will result in a failed connection.
    • Wrong password error: If your server has a password set, confirm it in the Server Config page in the panel. Passwords are case-sensitive.
    • Server shows as offline in the panel: Click the start button on your server's main page and wait for the status to change to running before trying to connect again.
    • Players can connect but you cannot: Try restarting your local network connection or checking whether a firewall on your computer is blocking Squad's network traffic.
