How to Connect to Your 7 Days To Die Server
Learn how to find your 7 Days To Die server's connection details in the RiverHosting panel and get yourself and your friends into the game quickly.
Once your 7 Days To Die server is up and running, the next step is actually getting into it. This article walks you through finding your server's connection details in the RiverHosting panel and joining the game, whether you're playing solo or inviting friends.
Before you start
- Make sure your server is started. You can check its status from your server page in the RiverHosting panel.
- Make sure you have 7 Days To Die installed on your computer through Steam.
- If you set a server password, have it ready to share with anyone you want to invite.
1. Find your server's connection details
Your server's IP address and port are listed on the Network page in the panel. This is the information you and your friends will use to connect.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel.
- Click on your 7 Days To Die server to open its page.
- Click Network in the left-hand menu.
- Note your server's IP address and game port. You will need both to connect.
Copy the IP address and port somewhere handy, like a Discord message or a notes app, so you can easily share it with friends.
2. Join your server from inside the game
7 Days To Die lets you connect to a server directly using its IP address and port. Here is how to do it.
- Launch 7 Days To Die from Steam.
- From the main menu, click Join a Game.
- Click the Connect to IP option. This is usually found at the bottom of the server browser screen.
- Enter your server's IP address and port in the format
IP:port, for example123.45.67.89:26900. - Click Connect.
- If your server has a password set, you will be prompted to enter it before joining.
The default game port for 7 Days To Die is 26900. Your server may use a different port if the default was not available. Always check the Network page in the panel for the exact port assigned to your server.
3. Set up a custom subdomain so your address is easier to share
Instead of sharing a raw IP address and port with your friends, you can set up a custom subdomain through the RiverHosting panel. This gives your server a memorable address like survival.playriver.net.
- Open your server page in the RiverHosting panel.
- Click Subdomain Manager in the left-hand menu.
- Choose a name for your subdomain and select one of the available base domains:
playriver.net,playminecraft.pro, orplayriver.xyz. - Save your subdomain.
- Share the full subdomain address with your friends instead of the raw IP.
After setting up a subdomain, it may take a few minutes before the address starts working. If it does not connect right away, wait a couple of minutes and try again.
Troubleshooting
- Connection timed out: Check that your server is actually running. Go to your server page in the panel and make sure the status shows as online. If it is stopped, click Start.
- Wrong port: Always use the port shown on the Network page. Do not assume the default port is in use. Your server may have been assigned a different one.
- Password prompt: If you forgot your server password, you can find or update it in the Server Config page from the left-hand menu.
- Friends cannot see the server in the browser: The in-game server browser may take time to list your server. Use the Connect to IP method instead for a reliable direct connection.
- Subdomain not working yet: Wait a few minutes after creating a subdomain before trying to connect with it. DNS changes are not instant.
