How to Use the Crossplay Settings on Your Space Engineers Server

    3 min read·Updated Jul 21, 2026

Learn how to enable or disable crossplay on your Space Engineers server from the RiverHosting panel so you can control who connects and keep your sessions running smoothly.

Space Engineers supports crossplay between different storefronts, but you may want to control whether it is enabled depending on who you want to play with. The RiverHosting panel includes a dedicated Crossplay page for your Space Engineers server so you can manage this setting without editing any files manually.

This guide walks you through finding the Crossplay page, understanding what the setting does, and applying your changes so your server behaves exactly the way you want.

    Before you start

    • You need an active Space Engineers server with RiverHosting. If you do not have one yet, visit riverhosting.com to get started.
    • Make sure you are logged in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
    • Your server should be stopped before applying changes to avoid any conflicts. You can stop it from the main server page using the Stop button.
    Quick tip

If you are not sure whether your server is running, check the status indicator at the top of your server page. A green indicator means it is online. Use the Stop button before making changes.

    1. Open the Crossplay page

    1. Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
    2. Click on your Space Engineers server from the server list.
    3. In the left-hand menu, look for the Crossplay option and click it.

The Crossplay page is a built-in panel feature for Space Engineers. It gives you a clear view of the current crossplay setting and lets you change it without touching any configuration files.

    What is crossplay?

Crosplay (short for cross-platform play) lets players from different PC storefronts join the same Space Engineers server. Enabling it opens your server to a wider group of players. Disabling it restricts connections to players on the same storefront as the server.

    2. Enable or disable crossplay

    1. On the Crossplay page, you will see the current state of the crossplay setting.
    2. Toggle the setting on or off depending on your preference.
      • Turn it on if you want players from multiple storefronts to be able to join your server.
      • Turn it off if you want to restrict access to players on a single storefront.
    3. Save your changes using the Save button on the page.
    Restart required

After saving your crossplay setting, you need to restart your server for the change to take effect. Use the Start button on your main server page to bring it back online.

    3. Restart your server and confirm the change

    1. After saving, go back to the main server page using the navigation in the left-hand menu or the breadcrumb at the top.
    2. Click the Start button to bring your server back online.
    3. Wait for the server to finish starting up. You can watch the Console to see when it is fully ready.
    4. Ask a friend to try joining from a different storefront to confirm the change is working as expected.
    All done

Your crossplay setting is now active. Players will either be able to join from multiple storefronts or be limited to one, depending on your choice.

    Troubleshooting

    • The Crossplay page is not visible in my menu. Make sure you are looking at a Space Engineers server. This page is only available for Space Engineers and will not appear for other games.
    • I saved the setting but nothing changed. The server needs a full restart after saving. Stop the server completely and then start it again rather than using a quick restart.
    • A player still cannot connect after enabling crossplay. Check the Network page to confirm the server IP and port are correct, and make sure the player is using the right connection details. You can find these on the Network page in the left-hand menu.
    • My changes are not saving. Make sure you click the Save button on the Crossplay page before navigating away. Changes are not applied automatically.
