How to Rename Your Space Engineers Server
Learn how to change the name of your Space Engineers server from the RiverHosting panel so your players can find and recognise it straight away.
Your Space Engineers server name is what players see when they browse the server list or share your server with friends. Changing it takes just a few clicks from the RiverHosting panel, and you do not need to edit any files by hand.
Before you start
- Make sure you have an active Space Engineers server with RiverHosting. You can log in to the panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
- You will need to restart your server after saving the change for the new name to appear in the server list.
- Pick a name that is easy to remember and share with your players.
A short server name is easier to spot in the in-game browser. Avoid special characters that might not display correctly.
1. How to change your Space Engineers server name
The server name is controlled through the Server Config page, which is the built-in settings editor for Space Engineers in the RiverHosting panel. Follow these steps:
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
- Click on your Space Engineers server from your server list.
- In the left-hand menu, click Server Config.
- Find the server name field. It will be labelled something like Server Name or World Name.
- Clear the existing name and type your new server name.
- Scroll down and click Save to apply your changes.
- Go back to the main server page and click Restart so the new name takes effect.
Once your server finishes restarting, the new name will appear in the Space Engineers multiplayer server list and on any server browser your players use.
2. How to verify the name change worked
After the server restarts, it is worth confirming the new name is showing correctly before you share it with your community.
- In the RiverHosting panel, click Console in the left-hand menu.
- Watch the startup log lines as the server loads. You should see your new server name appear in the output.
- Alternatively, launch Space Engineers, go to Join World, and search for your server by name to confirm it is listed correctly.
It can take a minute or two for the updated name to appear in the public server browser after a restart. If it does not appear straight away, wait a moment and refresh the list.
Troubleshooting
- The name did not change after saving. Make sure you clicked Save before restarting. Go back to Server Config and check that the new name is still there. If it has reverted, save it again and then restart.
- The name is not showing in the server list. Wait two to three minutes after the restart and refresh the in-game browser. Some server lists have a short caching delay.
- Players cannot find the server by name. Check that your server is set to public visibility in the Server Config. If the server is set to private or friends-only, it will not appear in the public list regardless of the name.
- Special characters are showing incorrectly. Some symbols may not display as expected in the server browser. Try using plain letters and numbers if you see unusual characters in the name.
