How to Upgrade Your Soulmask Server to a New Version

    3 min read·Updated Jul 22, 2026

Learn how to update your Soulmask server to the latest version from the RiverHosting panel so your players can always connect and enjoy new content.

Keeping your Soulmask server up to date makes sure your players can connect without version mismatch errors and that everyone has access to the latest game content and fixes. The RiverHosting panel handles the update process for you, so you do not need any technical knowledge to get it done.

    Before you start

    • Make sure you have a backup of your server before updating. Updates can occasionally cause unexpected changes to your world or configuration. Go to Backups in the left-hand menu and create a backup first.
    • Let your players know the server will be briefly offline during the update.
    • You will need to stop the server before the update can run. The panel will guide you through this.
    Back up before you update

Always create a backup before applying a game update. While most updates go smoothly, having a backup means you can restore your world if anything goes wrong.

    1. How to update your Soulmask server to the latest version

The RiverHosting panel keeps your Soulmask server files up to date through the standard update flow. Here is how to run the update:

    1. Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
    2. Click on your Soulmask server from the server list.
    3. If your server is running, click Stop to shut it down before continuing. Wait for it to reach a fully stopped state.
    4. In the left-hand menu, click Startup.
    5. On the Startup page, look for the update or reinstall option. This tells the panel to fetch and apply the latest version of the Soulmask server files from the official source.
    6. Confirm the action when prompted.
    7. Wait for the update process to complete. You can watch the progress in the server console on the Console page.
    8. Once the update finishes, click Start to bring your server back online.
    Watch the console

After starting the server, switch to the Console page and watch the output for a minute or two. If the update completed cleanly, the server will load normally and show its ready message.

    2. How to check your server configuration after updating

After a Soulmask update, it is worth checking your server settings to make sure nothing was reset or changed by the update process.

    1. In the left-hand menu, click Server Config.
    2. Review your key settings such as the server name, password, difficulty, and any other options you had previously configured.
    3. If any settings look different from what you expect, update them and save your changes.
    4. Restart the server from the Console page to apply any changes you made.
    Some updates reset config values

Occasionally a game update ships with changes to default configuration values. Always check your Server Config page after a major update to confirm everything still looks right.

    3. How to verify your world and saves after updating

Once the server is back online, it is a good idea to confirm that your world data loaded correctly.

    1. In the left-hand menu, click Worlds & Backups.
    2. Check that your world is listed and appears as expected.
    3. Connect to the server in-game and confirm your progress is intact.
    Update complete

If the server starts cleanly, your Server Config looks correct, and your world loads as expected, your Soulmask server is now fully updated and ready for players.

    Troubleshooting

    • Server will not start after the update. Open the Console page and read the output carefully. Error messages here usually point to a config issue or a corrupted file. Try restoring your backup if the problem persists.
    • Players are getting a version mismatch error. Make sure every player has updated their Soulmask game client to the same version as the server. Clients and servers must be on the same version to connect.
    • World data seems missing or reset. Go to Worlds & Backups and check whether an older world file is still present. If needed, restore your backup from the Backups page.
    • Server Config settings were reset. Reopen Server Config, re-enter your preferred settings, save, and restart the server.
    • The update appears to be stuck. Wait a few extra minutes, as large updates can take time. If the process does not complete after several minutes, stop the server and try the update again from the Startup page.
