How to Upgrade Your Satisfactory Server to a New Version
Learn how to update your Satisfactory server to the latest version from the RiverHosting panel so your server stays in sync with your game client and your friends can keep playing without issues.
Keeping your Satisfactory server on the same version as your game client is important. If your server is running an older version than the client your friends are using, they will not be able to connect. This guide walks you through how to update your Satisfactory server from the RiverHosting panel quickly and safely.
Before you start
- Make sure you are logged in to the RiverHosting panel.
- Back up your server before updating. Go to the Backups tab on your server page and create a backup first. This protects your save files if anything goes wrong during the update.
- Let your players know the server will be briefly offline while the update runs.
- Check the current Satisfactory version your game client is running. You can usually find this on the main menu of the game.
Updating your server can overwrite files. Always create a backup from the Backups tab before you start so you can restore your world if needed.
1. How to update your Satisfactory server to the latest version
Satisfactory server updates are handled through the Startup tab in the RiverHosting panel. When you trigger a server reinstall or update, the panel pulls the latest version of the Satisfactory dedicated server automatically.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel and open your Satisfactory server.
- Stop your server by clicking the Stop button at the top of the page. Wait for it to show as fully stopped before continuing.
- Click Startup in the left-hand menu.
- On the Startup page, review the startup command shown. If you have made any custom changes, note them down before proceeding.
- To pull the latest server files, click the Reinstall Server button. This is usually found at the bottom of the Startup page or in the Settings area of your server.
- A confirmation prompt will appear. Confirm that you want to reinstall. The panel will download and apply the latest Satisfactory dedicated server files.
- Wait for the reinstall process to finish. You can watch the progress in the Console.
- Once the reinstall is complete, start your server again by clicking the Start button.
After the update, open the Console tab and watch the startup output for a minute or two. Satisfactory will log its version number when it starts, so you can confirm the correct version is running.
2. How to confirm the update was successful
After your server restarts, you can verify that the update worked correctly before telling your players to reconnect.
- Click Console in the left-hand menu to open the server console.
- Look through the startup lines for a version number or build identifier. Satisfactory logs this near the beginning of its output.
- Compare the version shown in the console with the version your game client is running. They should match.
- Try connecting to your server yourself to confirm it is accepting connections before sharing it with your group.
Satisfactory has both an Early Access version and an Experimental branch. If your players are on the Experimental branch, make sure your server is also targeting that branch. You can check and adjust the branch by reviewing your startup command on the Startup page.
Troubleshooting
- Server will not start after the update. Open the Console tab and read the error messages carefully. Sometimes a startup variable needs to be re-entered after a reinstall. Go back to the Startup tab and check that all required fields are filled in correctly.
- Players still cannot connect after updating. Ask them to fully close and relaunch Satisfactory on their end. Sometimes the game client caches the old server version. Also double-check that your server version matches their client version exactly.
- Save files are missing after the reinstall. A reinstall can sometimes affect files in certain locations. Go to the Backups tab and restore from the backup you created before starting the update.
- The reinstall seems to be stuck. Wait a few minutes, as large game servers can take time to download. If it is still stuck after 10 minutes, stop the server and try the reinstall again. If the problem continues, contact RiverHosting support.
- Server is on the wrong branch. Go to the Startup tab and check the startup command or branch setting. Update it to match the branch your players are using, then reinstall again.
