How to Manage Worlds and Saves on Your Soulmask Server
Learn how to manage your Soulmask server worlds and saves from the RiverHosting panel so your progress stays safe and your tribe never loses its hard work.
Your Soulmask server stores your tribe's progress, base, and crafted items in world save files. Knowing how to manage those saves from the RiverHosting panel means you can protect your progress, roll things back if something goes wrong, and keep your world in good shape without needing any technical knowledge.
This guide walks you through everything you need to know about managing worlds and saves on your Soulmask server.
Before you start
- You need an active Soulmask server hosted with RiverHosting.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com and open your Soulmask server.
- It is a good idea to stop your server before making any changes to world or save files. This prevents file conflicts and data corruption.
Always stop your Soulmask server before switching worlds or deleting save files. Making changes while the server is running can corrupt your data.
1. How to view and manage your worlds and saves
The RiverHosting panel includes a dedicated page for managing your Soulmask worlds and saves. Here is how to access it:
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel and open your Soulmask server.
- In the left-hand menu, click Worlds & Backups.
- You will see a list of your existing world saves stored on the server.
- From here you can review what saves exist and take action on individual saves as needed.
Browsing the Worlds & Backups page every so often is a good habit. It helps you spot any unexpected saves or confirm your progress is being stored correctly.
2. How to back up your world save
Before making any major changes, such as switching to a new map or wiping the world, you should create a backup of your current save. The RiverHosting panel has a built-in Backups feature for this.
- In the left-hand menu, click Backups.
- Click the Create Backup button.
- Give your backup a recognisable name so you know what it contains, for example the date or a short description.
- Wait for the backup to complete. You will see it appear in the backups list when it is ready.
- You can download the backup to your own computer by clicking the download icon next to it, which gives you an extra local copy.
Once a backup has been created, your world save is protected. Even if something goes wrong later, you can restore from this backup at any time.
3. How to restore a world save from a backup
If your world is corrupted, accidentally wiped, or you simply want to go back to an earlier state, you can restore from a backup you created earlier.
- Stop your server if it is currently running.
- In the left-hand menu, click Backups.
- Find the backup you want to restore from the list.
- Click the three-dot menu or the restore option next to that backup.
- Confirm the restore when prompted. The panel will replace the current server files with the backup contents.
- Start your server again once the restore is complete.
Restoring a backup will overwrite whatever is currently on your server. If you want to keep your current state as well, create a new backup before restoring.
4. How to download your world save files manually
If you want to keep a personal copy of your save files outside of the panel backup system, you can download them directly using the File Manager.
- Stop your server to make sure the save files are fully written to disk.
- In the left-hand menu, click Files to open the File Manager.
- Navigate to the folder where Soulmask stores its save data. This is typically inside a folder named something like
Savedor a similar saves directory within the game files. - Select the save files or folders you want to download.
- Use the download option to save them to your computer.
Downloading save files to your own computer gives you a second layer of protection on top of panel backups. This is especially useful before a major server change.
5. How to wipe and reset your world
If you want to start fresh with a brand new world, you can wipe the existing save data from the server. This is useful after a content update or when your tribe wants a clean start.
Wiping your world permanently deletes all save progress. Always create a backup first if there is any chance you might want to recover the old world later.
- Create a backup of your current world using the steps in section 2 above.
- Stop your server.
- Open the Files page in the left-hand menu.
- Navigate to the save folder and delete the existing save files or folders.
- Start your server. Soulmask will generate a brand new world when it boots up with no save data present.
Troubleshooting
- My world save is not loading after a restart. Stop the server and check the File Manager to confirm the save files are still present in the correct folder. If they are missing, restore from a backup.
- The server starts but progress is gone. This usually means the server created a new world instead of loading the existing one. Check that the save folder has not been accidentally moved or renamed. Restore from a backup if needed.
- The backup is taking a long time. Large worlds with lots of player progress can take a few minutes to back up. Wait for the process to finish before starting the server again.
- I cannot find the save folder in File Manager. Soulmask save files may be nested inside several subfolders. Look inside directories named
Saved,SaveGames, or similar names. If you are unsure, contact RiverHosting support for guidance. - My restore did not work as expected. Make sure the server was fully stopped before restoring. If the problem continues, reach out to the support team with details of what happened.
