How to migrate your Rust server from VibeGames to RiverHosting
Learn how to use the Migrate page in the RiverHosting panel to pull your Rust server files straight from VibeGames, so nothing is downloaded to your PC and your move is quicker.
Moving your Rust server from VibeGames to RiverHosting does not mean downloading everything to your computer first. The Migrate page in the RiverHosting panel connects to VibeGames for you and copies the server files you choose straight onto your new server.
This guide shows you where to find your VibeGames login details, how to prepare your RiverHosting server, and how to run the migration step by step.
Before you start
- A RiverHosting server created for Rust. Create it before you migrate, so your files go into a matching server.
- Your VibeGames SFTP login details: the SFTP address (host), Username and Password. You will also need the port (see step 1).
- Access to the RiverHosting panel at https://panel.riverhosting.com.
- Optional but recommended: stop your server at VibeGames first, so the files do not change while they are being copied.
Do not cancel or delete anything at VibeGames until your Rust server is running properly on RiverHosting.
1. Get your connection details from VibeGames
The Migrate page needs your VibeGames SFTP details. SFTP is a safe way for two servers to copy files to each other. VibeGames describes where to find these details in their help article on managing your files with the file manager.
- Log in to your VibeGames game panel and open your server.
- Open the FTP Details page under CONFIGURATION. The Game panel login card on the server page also shows your Username and Password.
- Copy the SFTP address (host), the Username and the Password.
- Find the port number. VibeGames' help articles do not list the port. Check the FTP Details page and your VibeGames panel for it. If you cannot find it, contact VibeGames.
VibeGames articles disagree on whether the file login and the game panel login are the same. Confirm which password works on the FTP Details page. If you need a new one, open your server under Game Servers, use the three-dots menu on the Game panel login card and choose Reset password. Then copy the new password from the same card.
2. Prepare your RiverHosting Rust server
Make sure your RiverHosting server runs Rust before you copy anything.
- Log in to the panel at https://panel.riverhosting.com and open your Rust server.
- If the server is not on Rust yet, open Game Changer and switch it to Rust.
Switching games with Game Changer deletes all files on the RiverHosting server and reinstalls it. A backup is taken automatically first. Always do this before you start the migration, never after.
3. Move your files with the Migrate page
Now let RiverHosting pull the files from VibeGames.
- In the left menu, under SYSTEM, click Migrate.
- Set the protocol to SFTP.
- Fill in Host with the SFTP address from VibeGames.
- Fill in Port with the SFTP port you found in step 1.
- Enter the Username and Password exactly as VibeGames shows them.
- In Remote Path, enter the folder on VibeGames that holds your server files, meaning the files you want to bring over, such as your save data and configs.
- In Destination Path, enter where the files should go on your RiverHosting server.
- Click Test Connection. Wait for it to succeed.

If the panel recognizes the game on your old server, it may offer a choice:
- Switch to Rust: this goes through Game Changer, which wipes all files on your RiverHosting server and reinstalls it. Only choose it before you click Start Migration.
- Migrate Anyway: choose this if your RiverHosting server already runs Rust.
- Click Start Migration.
- Watch Migration Status. It shows the progress and the file being copied right now.
If a file on RiverHosting has the same name as a file being copied, it is replaced. Cancelling a migration keeps the files that were already copied.
4. Check your Rust server after the move
- Open Files and check that your save data and config files are there.
- Open Server Config and check your server name, player limit and other settings.
- Go to Console and click Start or Restart.
- Wait for the status badge to show ONLINE. A big map can take several minutes to load.
- Copy the IP from the server header and join in Rust by pressing F1 and typing
client.connectfollowed by the address.
Once your players can join and your data looks right, your move from VibeGames is complete.
Troubleshooting
- Test Connection fails: check that the Host, Port, Username and Password are copied exactly as VibeGames shows them, and that the protocol is set to SFTP. If it still fails, contact RiverHosting support.
- Not sure about the port: VibeGames' help articles do not list the port. Check the FTP Details page and your VibeGames panel for it. If you cannot find it, contact VibeGames.
- Password rejected: try the password from the Game panel login card, or reset it there as described above.
- Files are not where you expect: check your Remote Path and Destination Path, then run the migration again. Files with the same name are overwritten.
- Server does not start: open Console to read the messages, and check that the files landed in the right folders in Files.
