How to Manage Addons on Your Minecraft Bedrock Server

3 min read·Updated Nov 1, 2026

Learn how to install and manage addons on your Minecraft Bedrock server using the RiverHosting panel so you can add new content without editing any files by hand.

Addons are the official way to add new content to a Minecraft Bedrock server. They can change how the game looks, add new items and mobs, adjust behaviours, and much more. The RiverHosting panel includes a dedicated Addons page so you can manage everything without touching any files manually.

Before you start

  • You need an active Minecraft Bedrock server on RiverHosting.
  • Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com and open your server.
  • Addons come in two parts: a behaviour pack and a resource pack. Some addons include both, and some include only one. Check what your addon includes before you start.
  • Check which Bedrock platform your server runs (shown on the Versions page). Behaviour packs only work on Vanilla Bedrock. PocketMine-MP and PowerNukkitX only accept resource packs and reject behaviour packs.
Restart to apply changes

Addon changes only take effect after a restart. After uploading, enabling, disabling or deleting a pack, restart the server from the Console page.

1. How to open the Addons page

  1. Log in to the RiverHosting panel.
  2. Click on your Minecraft Bedrock server from the server list.
  3. In the left-hand menu, click Addons.

The Addons page shows any behaviour packs and resource packs that are currently installed on your server. Each table lists the pack name, its Size, an Enabled toggle and a delete button. The Behavior Packs table only appears on Vanilla Bedrock.

2. How to install an addon

Addons for Minecraft Bedrock are distributed as .mcpack or .mcaddon files. You will need to download the addon file from a trusted source before uploading it.

  1. Go to Addons in the left-hand menu.
  2. Click Upload Addon.
  3. Choose your .mcpack or .mcaddon file under Addon File and click Upload.
  4. Wait for the upload to finish. The pack is listed under Behavior Packs or Resource Packs.
  5. Make sure the Enabled toggle next to the pack is on. On PowerNukkitX there is no toggle; installed packs are always active.
  6. Restart your server to load the pack.
Where to find addons

You can find free Bedrock addons on sites like MCPEDL. Always download from sources you trust, and check that the addon is compatible with your current Bedrock server version.

3. How to remove an addon

  1. Go to Addons in the left-hand menu.
  2. Find the pack you want to remove in the list.
  3. Click the delete (trash) button next to that pack.
  4. Confirm the removal when prompted. Deleting a pack is permanent.
  5. Restart your server.

If you only want to switch a pack off for a while, turn off its Enabled toggle instead of deleting it, then restart.

Removing addons from an existing world

If a behaviour pack has been active on a world and you remove it, that world may behave unexpectedly or show errors when it loads. If you are unsure, create a backup of your world before removing any addons.

Platform switches and addons

Packs do not carry over when you switch platform on the Versions page. Upload them again on the Addons page after the switch.

Troubleshooting

  • The addon does not appear after uploading. Check that the file format is .mcpack or .mcaddon. Other file types are not supported. Try re-uploading the file if it did not process correctly.
  • Players cannot see the resource pack in game. Make sure the pack's Enabled toggle is on in the Addons page, then restart the server. If you want players to be forced to download it, turn on Require Texture Pack on the Properties page.
  • The server crashes after installing an addon. The addon may not be compatible with your current server version. Check the addon's documentation for version requirements. Remove the pack and try a compatible version.
  • Behaviours are not working as expected. Confirm that the behaviour pack is enabled and that the server has been restarted since. Behaviour packs only work on Vanilla Bedrock.
  • The upload is rejected. On PocketMine-MP and PowerNukkitX, behaviour packs are rejected because those platforms only support resource packs. Large addon files can also take a moment, so wait for the upload to finish before trying again.
