How to Manage Worlds on Your Minecraft Bedrock Server
Learn how to manage worlds on your Minecraft Bedrock server using the RiverHosting panel so you can switch, upload, and organise your worlds without touching any files manually.
Your Minecraft Bedrock server can hold multiple worlds, and the RiverHosting panel gives you a dedicated Worlds page to manage them all from one place. Whether you want to create a fresh world, switch to a different one, upload one from your computer, or tidy up old worlds you no longer need, you can do all of it without editing any files by hand.
This guide walks you through everything you need to know about managing worlds on your Minecraft Bedrock server.
Before you start
- Make sure you have an active Minecraft Bedrock server on RiverHosting.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel and open your server.
- Bedrock runs one world at a time. Activating or creating a world restarts the server, so let your players know first.
When you activate a world, the panel restarts the server straight away and disconnects everyone who is online. You do not need to stop the server yourself, but warn your players before you switch.
1. How to open the Worlds page
The Worlds page is where you view and manage all worlds stored on your Bedrock server.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel.
- Click your Minecraft Bedrock server from the server list.
- In the left-hand menu, click Worlds.
You will see a list of all the worlds currently stored on your server. The world that is currently loaded is marked Active, and each world has buttons to manage it.
2. How to switch your active world
If you have more than one world saved on your server, you can switch which one the server runs.
- Go to Worlds in the left-hand menu.
- Find the world you want to make active and click Activate this World.
- Confirm. The panel restarts the server for you.
When the server comes back online it will load the world you selected.
Your Bedrock server uses a level name setting to decide which world folder to load. When you set a world as active from the Worlds page, the panel updates this setting for you automatically.
3. How to upload a world from your computer
If you have a world saved locally, such as a world from your own game or downloaded from the internet, you can upload it to your server as a .zip file.
- Go to Worlds in the left-hand menu.
- Click Upload.
- Choose your world .zip under World Archive (.zip) and give it a World Name.
- Click Upload World.
- Once the upload finishes, click Activate this World on the new world. The server restarts and loads it.
Minecraft Bedrock worlds are stored as folders containing files like level.dat and a db subfolder. Make sure your .zip contains the complete world and not just part of it.
To start a brand new world instead, click Create New World, enter a World Name and confirm. The server restarts and generates the world. There is no seed field here; set Level Seed on the Properties page first if you want a specific seed.
If the Worlds page does not have a direct upload tool for your situation, you can also upload world folders manually using the File Manager. Bedrock worlds are stored inside the worlds folder in your server files.
4. How to delete a world you no longer need
Old worlds take up storage space on your server. You can remove worlds you no longer need from the Worlds page.
- Go to Worlds in the left-hand menu.
- Find the world you want to remove. The active world cannot be deleted, so activate a different world first if needed.
- Click Delete World next to it.
- Confirm the deletion when prompted.
Deleting a world from the panel permanently removes it. If you might want the world later, click Download World to save a copy before you delete it.
5. How to download a world from your server
You can download a copy of any world straight from the Worlds page. This is useful for keeping local backups or sharing a world with someone else.
- Go to Worlds in the left-hand menu.
- Find the world you want to download.
- Click Download World and save the .zip to your computer.
You can upload that .zip again later with Upload.
Before switching to a new world or uploading a replacement, click Quick Backup on your current world. Quick backups appear under World Backups, where Restore this Backup overwrites the active world and restarts the server. These are separate from the backups on the Backups page.
Troubleshooting
- The server loads the wrong world after switching. Double-check which world is marked Active on the Worlds page. If it is not the one you wanted, click Activate this World on the right one.
- My uploaded world does not load. Make sure the .zip contains a complete Bedrock world with a valid
level.datfile anddbfolder. - The server crashes after switching worlds. The world may have been created on a newer version of Minecraft Bedrock than the server runs. Use a world from a compatible game version, or activate your previous world again.
- I cannot see the Worlds page in the menu. Make sure your server is set up as a Minecraft Bedrock server. If you recently switched game types, try refreshing the panel or logging out and back in.
