How to Change the Admins on Your Insurgency: Sandstorm Server
Learn how to add and manage admins on your Insurgency: Sandstorm server using the RiverHosting panel so you can keep your server under control without editing files by hand.
Admins on an Insurgency: Sandstorm server can kick players, change maps, run server commands, and help keep your community running smoothly. The RiverHosting panel makes it easy to manage your admin list from one place without needing to dig through config files.
Before you start
- You need an active Insurgency: Sandstorm server with RiverHosting. If you do not have one yet, visit riverhosting.com to get started.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com and open your Insurgency: Sandstorm server.
- To add someone as an admin, you will need their Steam ID (also called SteamID64). This is a long number linked to their Steam account.
You can look up any player's SteamID64 by visiting a site such as steamid.io and searching for their Steam profile URL or username. The SteamID64 is the long number that starts with 7656.
1. How to open the Admins page
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
- Click on your Insurgency: Sandstorm server from the server list.
- In the left-hand menu, click Admins.
This opens the Admins page where you can view, add, and remove admins for your server.
2. How to add a new admin
- On the Admins page, locate the field for adding a new admin.
- Enter the player's SteamID64 into the field provided.
- Click the button to save or add the admin.
- Restart your server for the change to take effect. You can do this from the Console page by clicking the restart button at the top of the page.
Admin changes do not take effect while the server is running. Always restart your server after adding or removing an admin so the updated list is loaded.
3. How to remove an admin
- Go back to the Admins page in the left-hand menu.
- Find the Steam ID of the admin you want to remove.
- Click the remove or delete option next to their entry.
- Save the change, then restart your server from the Console page.
Admins can kick players, change the map, and run commands on your server. Only give admin access to players you fully trust.
4. How to confirm your admin list is working
- After restarting, join your server in Insurgency: Sandstorm.
- Open the in-game console by pressing the tilde key (usually the
`key). - Try a basic admin command such as listing connected players. If the command works, your admin access is set up correctly.
You can also run server commands directly from the RiverHosting panel without joining the game. Click RCON in the left-hand menu to open the in-panel admin console.
Troubleshooting
- Admin commands are not working in-game: Make sure you restarted the server after saving the admin list. Changes do not apply until the server restarts.
- The Steam ID I entered is not saving: Double-check that you are using the full SteamID64 (the long number starting with 7656). Shorter formats such as STEAM_0: or profile names will not work.
- I added myself but still have no admin permissions: Confirm your Steam account matches the SteamID64 you entered. It is easy to copy the wrong profile if you searched for a common name.
- The Admins page is not visible: Make sure you are looking at an Insurgency: Sandstorm server. This page is specific to Insurgency: Sandstorm and will not appear on other game servers.
