How to Rename Your Insurgency: Sandstorm Server
Learn how to change your Insurgency: Sandstorm server name from the RiverHosting panel so players can find your server easily in the server browser.
Your server name is the first thing players see when browsing for a game. Giving your Insurgency: Sandstorm server a clear, recognizable name makes it easier for friends and new players to find it in the server list. You can change it any time from the RiverHosting panel without editing any files manually.
Before you start
- Make sure you have access to your server at panel.riverhosting.com.
- You will need owner or admin access on your server panel account.
- Your server will need a brief restart for the new name to take effect.
Choose a name that is easy to search for. Short, memorable names tend to perform better in the in-game server browser.
1. How to change your server name from Server Config
The Server Config page in the RiverHosting panel is where you manage the core settings for your Insurgency: Sandstorm server, including the name that shows up in the server browser.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
- Select your Insurgency: Sandstorm server from the server list.
- In the left-hand menu, click Server Config.
- Find the server name field. It is usually labelled something like Server Name or Hostname.
- Clear the current name and type your new server name.
- Click Save to apply your changes.
- Restart your server so the new name loads. You can do this from the Console page by clicking the restart button at the top of the page.
Once your server comes back online, the updated name will appear in the Insurgency: Sandstorm server browser. It may take a minute or two to propagate fully.
2. How to confirm the name change worked
After the restart, you can verify the new name in a couple of ways.
- Open the Console page in the RiverHosting panel and watch the startup log. The server name is often printed near the top of the log as the server initializes.
- Launch Insurgency: Sandstorm, go to the server browser, and search for your new name. It should appear in the list once the server has finished starting up.
Give it a couple of minutes after the restart. The server browser refreshes on its own cycle, so brand new entries can take a short time to appear.
Troubleshooting
- The name did not change after saving. Make sure you clicked Save before restarting. If the field reverted to the old name after saving, try clearing your browser cache and saving again.
- The server is not appearing in the browser at all. Check the Console page for any startup errors. If the server failed to start, it will not be listed. Review the log and look for obvious error messages near the bottom.
- The name shows special characters incorrectly. Some characters such as brackets or symbols may not display as expected in the server browser. Try using plain letters and numbers if you run into display issues.
- Changes are not saving. Make sure your panel session has not timed out. Log out and back in, then try saving again.
