How to Add and Manage Admins on Your Insurgency: Sandstorm Server

    3 min read·Updated Jul 21, 2026

Learn how to add and manage admins on your Insurgency: Sandstorm server using the RiverHosting panel so trusted players can help you keep the game running smoothly.

Giving trusted players admin access on your Insurgency: Sandstorm server lets them help you moderate matches, kick disruptive players, and keep things running smoothly when you are not online. The RiverHosting panel includes a dedicated Admins page that makes this straightforward, with no file editing required.

    Before you start

    • You need an active Insurgency: Sandstorm server on RiverHosting. If you do not have one yet, you can order from riverhosting.com.
    • To grant someone admin access, you will need their Steam 64 ID. This is a long number that uniquely identifies a Steam account.
    • You can find a player's Steam 64 ID by looking up their Steam profile on a site such as steamid.io and copying the steamID64 value.
    • Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com and open your Insurgency: Sandstorm server.
You can add yourself as an admin too

If you want to use in-game admin commands as the server owner, add your own Steam 64 ID as well. You do not get admin access automatically just by owning the server.

    1. How to add an admin to your Insurgency: Sandstorm server

The Admins page in the panel is the easiest way to manage who has admin access on your server. Follow these steps:

    1. Log in to the RiverHosting panel and select your Insurgency: Sandstorm server.
    2. In the left-hand menu, click Admins.
    3. You will see a list of current admins. If no admins have been added yet, the list will be empty.
    4. Find the field to add a new admin and enter the Steam 64 ID of the player you want to grant access to.
    5. Save your changes using the button on the page.
    6. Restart your server so the changes take effect. You can do this from the Console page by clicking the restart button at the top of the page.
    Changes need a restart

Admin changes are read when the server starts up. If your server is currently running, you must restart it before the new admin can use their permissions in-game.

    2. How to remove an admin from your Insurgency: Sandstorm server

If you need to remove someone's admin access, the process is just as simple:

    1. Go back to the Admins page in the left-hand menu.
    2. Find the Steam 64 ID of the admin you want to remove.
    3. Delete or remove their entry from the list.
    4. Save your changes.
    5. Restart the server for the removal to take effect.
Remove admins you no longer trust

Anyone listed as an admin can use powerful in-game commands including kicking and banning players. Remove access promptly if someone should no longer have it.

    3. What admins can do in Insurgency: Sandstorm

Once a player is listed as an admin and the server has restarted, they can use admin commands directly in-game. Common admin actions in Insurgency: Sandstorm include:

    • Kicking or banning disruptive players.
    • Changing the map or scenario mid-match.
    • Switching teams or adjusting player slots.
    • Using other server management commands supported by the game.

You can also run admin commands directly from the panel without being in-game. Go to RCON in the left-hand menu to open the in-panel admin console and send commands to your live server.

    Use RCON for quick commands

The RCON page in the panel lets you run admin commands from your browser without joining the server. This is handy for quick changes like switching the map or kicking a player.

    Troubleshooting

    • Admin commands are not working in-game. Make sure you restarted the server after saving the admin list. Changes do not apply to a running server.
    • The Steam 64 ID was entered incorrectly. Double-check the ID using steamid.io. The Steam 64 ID is a 17-digit number and must be entered exactly as shown.
    • The Admins page does not appear in the menu. Make sure you are viewing an Insurgency: Sandstorm server and not a different game server. The Admins page is specific to this game.
    • The admin was added but still cannot use commands. Confirm the server fully restarted after the change. You can check the Console page to see the latest startup logs and confirm the server is online.
