How to Change the Admins on Your 7 Days To Die Server

    3 min read·Updated Jul 22, 2026

Learn how to add and manage admin players on your 7 Days To Die server using the RiverHosting panel so you can keep your server safe and well-moderated.

Running a 7 Days To Die server is much easier when you have trusted admins to help you keep things in order. Admins can kick or ban players, run server commands, and help manage the game while you are away. On your RiverHosting server, you can manage admins directly from the panel without editing any files by hand.

    Before you start

    • Make sure your 7 Days To Die server is already set up and has been started at least once.
    • You will need the Steam ID (also called SteamID64) of each player you want to make an admin. Players can find their SteamID64 by visiting steamid.io and entering their Steam profile URL.
    • Admin permission levels in 7 Days To Die are number-based. Lower numbers mean more permissions. A level of 0 is the highest possible access, and 1000 is a standard player with no extra permissions.
    Permission levels explained

In 7 Days To Die, permission level 0 gives full admin access. Common choices are 0 for full admins, 100 for moderators, and 200 for helpers. You can use any number from 0 to 1000.

    1. How to add or change admins using the Admins and Permissions page

The easiest way to manage admins on your 7 Days To Die server is through the built-in Admins and Permissions page in the RiverHosting panel. This lets you add, edit, and remove admins without touching any configuration files.

    1. Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
    2. Click on your 7 Days To Die server from the server list.
    3. In the left-hand menu, click Admins & Permissions.
    4. You will see a list of any current admins or permission entries.
    5. To add a new admin, look for the option to add a new entry. Enter the player's SteamID64 in the identifier field.
    6. Set the permission level for that player. Use 0 for full admin access, or a higher number like 100 for a moderator role.
    7. Optionally, enter a display name or note so you can identify who the entry belongs to.
    8. Save your changes.
    9. Restart your server so the new permissions take effect.
Use a note for each admin

Adding a name or short note alongside each SteamID64 makes it much easier to manage your admin list later, especially if your server grows.

    2. How to remove an admin

If you need to remove someone from the admin list, you can do that from the same page.

    1. Go to the Admins & Permissions page in the panel.
    2. Find the entry for the player you want to remove.
    3. Click the remove or delete option next to their entry.
    4. Save your changes and restart the server to apply them.
    Restart required

Changes to admins and permissions do not apply until the server has been restarted. Players who are currently connected will not see their new permissions until they rejoin after the restart.

    3. How to adjust permission levels for existing admins

You can change the permission level of an existing admin at any time. This is useful if you want to promote someone to a higher access level or reduce their permissions without removing them entirely.

    1. Open the Admins & Permissions page in the panel.
    2. Find the entry for the admin you want to update.
    3. Edit their permission level to the new value you want.
    4. Save and restart the server to apply the change.
    Command permissions

In 7 Days To Die, certain server commands are locked behind specific permission levels. For example, a player with permission level 100 may not be able to run commands that require level 0. Adjust levels carefully based on how much access you want each admin to have.

    Troubleshooting

    • Admin permissions are not working in-game. Make sure you restarted the server after saving your changes. Permissions only load when the server starts up.
    • I cannot find a player's SteamID64. Ask the player to visit steamid.io and paste their Steam profile URL to get their SteamID64. Make sure you are using the SteamID64 format, which is a 17-digit number.
    • The admin can join but cannot use commands. Check the permission level you assigned. A higher number means fewer permissions. Try lowering the number, for example from 500 to 100, and restart the server again.
    • I added the wrong SteamID64. Remove the incorrect entry from the Admins and Permissions page, add a new entry with the correct SteamID64, and restart the server.
