How to Manage Prospects on Your Icarus Server
Learn how to manage Prospects on your Icarus server from the RiverHosting panel so you can start, switch, and clean up missions without touching any files.
Icarus is a session-based survival game where each mission takes place in a separate instance called a Prospect. Unlike games with a single persistent world, Icarus lets you run different Prospects on your server, each with its own progress and settings. Managing these from the RiverHosting panel is straightforward once you know where to look.
This guide walks you through everything you need to know about the Prospects page on your Icarus server, including how to start a new Prospect, switch between them, and remove old ones you no longer need.
Before you start
- You need an active Icarus server on RiverHosting. If you do not have one yet, visit riverhosting.com to get started.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com and open your Icarus server.
- Your server must be stopped before making changes to the active Prospect. Changes to a running server may not take effect until the next restart.
Always stop your Icarus server before switching or deleting a Prospect. Making changes while the server is running can cause data loss or the wrong Prospect to load.
1. How to open the Prospects page
The Prospects page is where you control which mission your server is currently running. Here is how to find it:
- Log in to the panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
- Click on your Icarus server from the server list.
- In the left-hand menu, click Prospects.
This page lists all the Prospects currently saved on your server. Each entry shows the Prospect name and lets you manage it directly from the panel.
2. How to start a new Prospect
To run a new mission on your server, you need to set the active Prospect. If this is a fresh server or you want to start a brand new session, follow these steps:
- Stop your server using the Stop button at the top of the page.
- Go to Prospects in the left-hand menu.
- Choose the Prospect you want to make active, or check whether a new session will be created automatically when your server starts with no active Prospect set.
- Start your server using the Start button.
- Players can then join and the chosen mission will load.
Make sure everyone who wants to join the Prospect is ready before you start the server. Icarus Prospects are session-based, so players need to be present at the start to join that mission run.
3. How to switch to a different Prospect
If you want to change which mission your server is currently running, you can switch between saved Prospects at any time when the server is stopped:
- Stop your server.
- Go to Prospects in the left-hand menu.
- Find the Prospect you want to switch to in the list.
- Select it or set it as the active Prospect using the available controls on the page.
- Start your server again.
Your server will now load the Prospect you selected. Previous Prospect progress is kept as long as you do not delete it.
Each Prospect on your server saves its own progress independently. Switching to a different one does not overwrite or erase the others.
4. How to delete an old Prospect
Over time you may end up with Prospects you no longer need. Removing them keeps your server tidy and frees up storage space.
- Stop your server.
- Go to Prospects in the left-hand menu.
- Find the Prospect you want to remove.
- Click the delete option next to it.
- Confirm the deletion when prompted.
Deleting a Prospect removes all progress saved in that mission. This cannot be undone. If you want to keep the data, create a backup first using the Backups tab before deleting.
Troubleshooting
- The server starts but loads the wrong Prospect. Stop the server, go back to the Prospects page, and confirm the correct one is set as active before starting again.
- Players cannot join the Prospect. Make sure the server is fully started and showing as online in the panel. Also check the Network page to confirm players are using the correct IP address and port.
- A Prospect is missing from the list. If a Prospect does not appear, it may not have been saved correctly. Check the File Manager for any Prospect save files and contact support if you need help recovering them.
- Changes are not applying after a restart. Confirm you stopped the server fully before making changes. If the server was suspended rather than stopped, the changes may not have been written correctly.
