How to Configure Your Icarus Server Settings from the Panel

    3 min read·Updated Jul 21, 2026

Learn how to adjust your Icarus server settings from the RiverHosting panel so you can tailor the experience for your crew without editing any files by hand.

Icarus is a session-based survival game where you and your crew drop onto a dangerous alien world, complete objectives, and make it back to orbit in one piece. If you are hosting an Icarus server through RiverHosting, you can control most of the important server settings directly from the panel without touching any configuration files.

This guide walks you through the key settings pages available for your Icarus server and explains what each one does.

    Before you start

    • Make sure your Icarus server is set up and has been started at least once.
    • Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
    • Select your Icarus server from the server list.
    • You will need to restart the server after saving most settings for the changes to take effect.
    Restart required

Most setting changes on your Icarus server only take effect after a full server restart. Make sure no players are in an active prospect before restarting.

    1. How to change your server settings using the Server Config page

The Server Config page is the main place to configure your Icarus server. It gives you a clean form-based editor so you can change common options without opening any files.

    1. Open the RiverHosting panel and go to your Icarus server.
    2. Click Server Config in the left-hand menu.
    3. You will see fields for your server name, password, maximum player count, and other core settings.
    4. Update the values you want to change.
    5. Click Save to apply your changes.
    6. Restart your server from the top of the page so the new settings load.
    Server name tip

Choose a clear and recognisable server name so your friends can find it easily in the server browser. Avoid special characters that might cause display issues.

    2. How to manage your server whitelist and bans

The Whitelist / Bans page lets you control exactly who can join your Icarus server. You can restrict access to an approved list of players, or ban players who have caused trouble.

    1. In the left-hand menu, click Whitelist / Bans.
    2. To enable the whitelist, toggle the whitelist option on and save.
    3. Add the Steam IDs or usernames of the players you want to allow.
    4. To ban a player, enter their details in the ban section and confirm.
    5. Save your changes and restart the server for the whitelist to take effect.
    Finding a Steam ID

You can find a player's Steam ID by visiting their Steam profile page and looking at the URL, or by using a Steam ID lookup tool. The ID is a long number that usually starts with 7656. ::: :::note[Whitelist behaviour] When the whitelist is enabled, only players you have added will be able to connect. Anyone not on the list will be refused entry, even if they know the server password.

    3. How to manage prospects on your server

Icarus uses a prospect system where players join missions rather than a persistent open world. The Prospects page in the panel lets you see and manage the active prospects on your server.

    1. Click Prospects in the left-hand menu.
    2. You can view which prospects are currently running or have been completed.
    3. Use the available controls to end or reset a prospect when your group has finished a session.
    Cleaning up old prospects

If your server has leftover prospects from old sessions, clearing them out keeps things tidy and avoids confusion for new players joining.

    4. How to find your server connection details

Your players need your server's IP address and port to connect. The easiest place to find these is the Network page.

    1. Click Network in the left-hand menu.
    2. You will see your server's IP address and the game port your players need to enter when connecting.
    3. Share these details with your crew so they can add the server manually in the Icarus server browser.
    Example connection address

Your server address will look something like 123.45.67.89:17777. Share the full address including the port number with your players.

    Troubleshooting

    • Changes are not showing up after saving: Make sure you restarted the server after saving. Most Icarus settings only load on startup.
    • Players cannot connect even with the correct address: Double-check the port number on the Network page and confirm the server is running. Also check whether the whitelist is enabled and that the player has been added to it.
    • Server is not appearing in the browser: Some players may need to connect directly using the IP and port rather than browsing for the server. Share the full connection address from the Network page.
    • Whitelist not working after enabling: Confirm you saved the whitelist settings and restarted the server. Adding players to the list while the server is running may not take effect until a restart.
    • Server keeps stopping unexpectedly: Check the Console tab for any error messages. If the issue continues, contact RiverHosting support for help diagnosing the problem.
