How to migrate your Factorio server from ScalaCube to RiverHosting
Learn how to move your Factorio server from ScalaCube using the Migrate page in the RiverHosting panel, so your saves and mods come across without any manual downloads.
Moving your Factorio server from ScalaCube to RiverHosting is simple with the Migrate page. RiverHosting connects to your ScalaCube server for you and copies your save files and mods across, so nothing has to be downloaded to your computer first.
Before you start
- A RiverHosting server for Factorio. Create it first so your files go into a matching server.
- Your ScalaCube FTP login details (Host, Port, Username and Password).
- Access to the RiverHosting panel at https://panel.riverhosting.com.
It is a good idea to stop your server at ScalaCube before you copy files, so the save is not changing while it is copied. Keep your ScalaCube server until everything works on RiverHosting.
Make sure your RiverHosting server is already set up for Factorio before you migrate. This avoids the game switch offer described below.
1. Step 1: Get your FTP details from ScalaCube
ScalaCube shows FTP details in its control panel. See their help article here: ScalaCube FTP guide. In short, you open your game server in the ScalaCube control panel and go to the FTP section.
- Open your game server in the ScalaCube control panel and go to the FTP section (from Your Gameserver, then FTP).
- Note the Host, Port, Login (username) and Password shown there.
- If you cannot see the password, use Show Password. You can also use Change to set a new one.
You do not need to install any extra program. RiverHosting does the connecting for you.
Use the port exactly as ScalaCube shows it. If the connection fails later, check the port and protocol first.
2. Step 2: Decide which folder to copy
Before the transfer, work out which folder on ScalaCube holds your server files. This is the folder you will enter as the Remote Path on RiverHosting. You want it to contain your Factorio save files and your mods, so they come across together.
The ScalaCube FTP section only lists the Host, Port, Login and Password, so it does not show the folder. The ScalaCube help article's FTP client example shows the server folder in its remote file view (their example is a Minecraft server, so your folder will differ). If you are not sure which folder holds your Factorio files, you can also contact RiverHosting support before you start.
On RiverHosting, Factorio saves are .zip files kept in saves, and mods are kept in mods. Once the files arrive, you can check them on the Saves and Mods pages.
3. Step 3: Run the migration on RiverHosting
- Log in to https://panel.riverhosting.com and open your Factorio server.
- In the sidebar, under SYSTEM, click Migrate.
- Choose the protocol that matches your ScalaCube details (FTP).
- Enter the Host and Port from ScalaCube.
- Enter the Username (Login) and Password from ScalaCube.
- In Remote Path, enter the folder on ScalaCube that holds your server files.
- In Destination Path, enter where the files should go on your RiverHosting server.
- Click Test Connection and wait for it to succeed.
- Click Start Migration.
- Follow the Migration Status area, which shows progress and the file currently being copied.

If a file on RiverHosting has the same name as a file being copied, it is overwritten. If you cancel with Cancel Migration, the files already copied are kept.
If the panel detects the game
If the Migrate page recognises the game on ScalaCube, it may offer Switch to Factorio or Migrate Anyway.
- If your RiverHosting server already runs Factorio, choose Migrate Anyway.
- Switch to Factorio uses Game Changer. This wipes all files on your RiverHosting server and reinstalls it (a backup is taken automatically first). Do this before Start Migration, never after.
Switching games after your files are copied would wipe them. Always decide before you click Start Migration.
4. Step 4: Activate your save and start the server
- When Migration Status shows it has finished, open Saves under the Factorio group in the sidebar.
- Find your migrated save in the list and click Activate.
- Open Mods and check your mods are listed and enabled as you expect.
- Go to Console and click Restart.
Every player must run the same mods at the same versions as the server, or Factorio will reject the join. Use Copy mod list for players on the Mods page to share the list.
Once you can join and your progress looks right, your move from ScalaCube is complete. You can then decide what to do with your old server.
Troubleshooting
- If Test Connection fails, check the Host, Port, Username, Password and protocol against what ScalaCube shows. Check that the username and password are copied exactly.
- If you are unsure about the password, use Show Password in the ScalaCube FTP section, or set a new one with Change, then try again.
- If the port does not work, use the port shown in ScalaCube's panel and try again.
- If your save does not appear on the Saves page, check that the Remote Path points to the folder that holds your server files, then run the migration again.
- If the connection still fails, contact RiverHosting support using the link below.
