How to migrate your 7 Days To Die server from G-Portal to RiverHosting

4 min read·Updated Nov 2, 2026

Learn how to move your 7 Days To Die server from G-Portal using the RiverHosting Migrate page, so your saves arrive straight from the old host with no manual downloads.

Moving your 7 Days To Die world away from G-Portal does not mean downloading everything to your computer first. The RiverHosting Migrate page connects to G-Portal over FTP and copies your files straight into your new server. This guide shows you how to collect your G-Portal login details, run the migration, and check the game name and world settings so your existing world loads instead of a new one.

Before you start

  • A RiverHosting server set up for 7 Days To Die. Create it before you migrate so your files land in a matching server.
  • Your G-Portal FTP login details (see Step 1 below).
  • Your G-Portal server stopped, so the world is not changing while it is copied. This is general good practice.
  • A little patience if your world is large. You can follow progress on the Migrate page.
Keep the old server for now

Do not cancel or delete anything at G-Portal until your world is loading correctly on RiverHosting.

Start the new server once

Start your RiverHosting 7 Days To Die server once and then stop it. This lets the game create its basic files and settings before your saves arrive.

1. Step 1: Get your files from G-Portal

G-Portal shows the FTP access data for your server in its web panel. Their wiki article about uploading saves to a 7 Days To Die server describes the same area. You only need to copy the details. You do not need to download any files.

  1. Log in to the G-Portal website.
  2. Open My servers in the left menu and choose your server.
  3. Open Status in the left menu. The FTP access data is listed there.
  4. Stop the server from the G-Portal web interface so nothing changes while you copy.
  5. Keep that page open. You will copy these details into RiverHosting next.

The Migrate page on RiverHosting asks for these items: Host, Port, Username, Password, Remote Path and Destination Path. Check the exact labels on your G-Portal Status page and copy them carefully.

Back up first

Before you delete or edit anything on the G-Portal FTP server, make a backup. Files deleted there are gone permanently. On RiverHosting, files with the same name on your server are overwritten by the migration.

2. Step 2: Migrate your saves with the RiverHosting Migrate page

RiverHosting connects to G-Portal from its own side, so nothing passes through your computer. Your goal is to copy the whole saves folder.

  1. Log in to the RiverHosting panel and open your 7 Days To Die server.
  2. In the left menu, under SYSTEM, click Migrate.
  3. Choose FTP as the protocol, because G-Portal lists FTP access.
  4. Enter the Host and Port from your G-Portal Status page.
  5. Enter the Username and Password from the same page.
  6. In Remote Path, enter the folder on G-Portal that holds your server files, so that your saves folder is included.
  7. In Destination Path, enter where the files should go on your RiverHosting server. Use the folder where the game keeps its saves. The Worlds & Saves page shows the exact paths.
  8. Click Test Connection and wait for it to succeed.
  9. If the panel detects the game from G-Portal, it may offer Switch to 7 Days To Die or Migrate Anyway. If your RiverHosting server already runs 7 Days To Die, choose Migrate Anyway.
  10. Click Start Migration.
  11. Watch Migration Status. It shows progress and the file being copied right now.
Switch to a game before you migrate

If you choose Switch to 7 Days To Die, it runs through Game Changer. That wipes all files on your RiverHosting server and reinstalls it. A backup is taken automatically first. Do this before you click Start Migration, never after.

Same file names

Files with the same name on your RiverHosting server are overwritten. If you cancel, the files already copied stay where they are.

3. Step 3: Check the game name and world settings

After the copy finishes, make sure the server points at your existing world. If the names or world settings do not match, the server creates a new world instead.

  1. Click Console and make sure the server is stopped. Settings can only be saved while it is stopped.
  2. Open Worlds & Saves in the GAME section. Your copied save should appear in the Saves list with its name and world.
  3. If your save is not the active one, click Activate on it. This sets the game world and save name for you. Your other worlds are not deleted.
  4. Open Server Config and go to the World group.
  5. Check that Save Game Name matches the name used in your save exactly.
  6. Check Game World. If your world was made with a random generated map, the World Gen Seed and World Gen Size must also match your original world.
  7. Click Save Config.
  8. Go back to Console and click Start.
Seed and size matter

If the seed or size does not match your original random world, the server will generate a new world instead of loading yours. Back up before changing these values.

First start can be quiet

On a random generated map, the first start can take several minutes and the console may go quiet. This is normal.

All set

When your world loads with your buildings and progress, the migration is done. Join the server with the address chip at the top of the panel to confirm.

Troubleshooting

  • Test Connection fails: check that the Host, Port, Username and Password match what G-Portal shows on its Status page, and that the protocol is FTP. Copy the values exactly, with no extra spaces.
  • You are unsure which fields G-Portal uses: open the Status page again and compare each label with the Migrate page fields.
  • Test Connection still fails after checking everything: contact RiverHosting support using the link below.
  • The server starts a brand new world: stop the server, then recheck Save Game Name, Game World, World Gen Seed and World Gen Size in Server Config.
  • Your save is not listed in Worlds & Saves: check that the saves folder was copied to the right Destination Path, then open Files and look for it.
  • Wrong files or a stopped migration: you can click Cancel Migration. Files already copied are kept, and you can run it again.
