How to Change the Seed for Your Don't Starve Together Server World

    3 min read·Updated Jul 22, 2026

Learn how to change the world seed on your Don't Starve Together server from the RiverHosting panel so you and your friends can start fresh on a brand new map.

Every Don't Starve Together world is shaped by a seed, a number that tells the game how to arrange the map, resources, and biomes when a new world is generated. If you want a different layout, want to recreate a specific world a friend shared, or just fancy a fresh start, you can set a new seed directly from the RiverHosting panel without editing any files by hand.

This guide walks you through finding and changing your world seed step by step.

    Before you start

    • You need an active Don't Starve Together server hosted with RiverHosting. Log in to the panel at panel.riverhosting.com to get started.
    • Changing the seed only takes effect when a new world is generated. Your current world will need to be wiped or regenerated for the new seed to apply.
    • Make sure any players on the server are aware before you proceed, as this will erase the current world.
This will delete your current world

Generating a new world with a different seed permanently removes your existing world data. If you want to keep your current world, create a backup from the Backups page before continuing.

    1. Open the World Generation settings

    1. Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
    2. Click on your Don't Starve Together server from your server list.
    3. In the left-hand menu, click World Generation.
What is the World Generation page?

The World Generation page lets you control how your Don't Starve Together world is built, including the seed, world size, season lengths, and resource settings. It is the easiest way to customise your world before generating it.

    2. Set a new world seed

    1. On the World Generation page, look for the Seed field. This will either show the seed used for your current world or be blank if one has not been set before.
    2. Clear the existing value and type in the seed you want to use.
      • If you have a specific seed to use, enter it exactly as given.
      • If you just want a random new world, you can leave the seed field blank or enter 0. The game will generate a random seed automatically.
    3. Once you have entered your chosen seed, click Save or the equivalent save button on the page to store your changes.
    Where to find seeds

You can find popular Don't Starve Together seeds shared by the community on forums, Reddit, and the Klei Entertainment Discord. Seeds are just numbers, so they are easy to copy and paste into the field.

    3. Regenerate the world to apply the new seed

    1. After saving your seed, go to the Console page from the left-hand menu.
    2. Stop the server by clicking the Stop button at the top of the page. Wait for it to fully stop before continuing.
    3. To wipe and regenerate the world, navigate to Worlds & Saves in the left-hand menu.
    4. Find the world you want to regenerate and use the regenerate or reset option. This will delete the existing world data and create a brand new world using the seed you just set.
    5. Once the regeneration is complete, start your server again by clicking the Start button in the Console.
    Caves use a separate seed

If your server has Caves enabled, the caves world may have its own seed setting. Check the World Generation page for a separate caves seed field and update it too if you want to control the underground layout.

    4. Confirm the new world is running

    1. Once the server has started, open the Console page and watch the startup output.
    2. You should see log lines referencing the world being generated. If your seed was accepted, the game will use it to build the map.
    3. Connect to your server in Don't Starve Together and explore the new world to confirm the seed has taken effect.
    World generated successfully

If the server starts without errors and you can join, your new world seed is working correctly. The map layout, biomes, and resources will now reflect the seed you entered.

    Troubleshooting

    • The world looks the same as before. Make sure you saved the seed on the World Generation page before regenerating. Also confirm you actually regenerated the world and did not just restart the server, as a restart loads the existing world rather than creating a new one.
    • The server will not start after regenerating. Check the Console output for any error messages. If the world files appear corrupted, try regenerating again from the Worlds & Saves page.
    • The seed field is not saving. Try refreshing the World Generation page and entering the seed again. Make sure you click Save before navigating away.
    • Caves are not matching the expected layout. If you set a seed for the surface world but not for caves, the caves will still generate randomly. Set a caves seed on the World Generation page as well if you need a specific underground layout.
    • I cannot find the World Generation page. Make sure you are looking at the correct server. Log in to panel.riverhosting.com, select your Don't Starve Together server, and check the left-hand menu for World Generation.
