How to Connect to Your Core Keeper Server
Learn how to find your Core Keeper server's Game ID and connection details from the RiverHosting panel so you and your friends can jump in without any guesswork.
Once your Core Keeper server is up and running, the next step is getting you and your friends connected. Core Keeper uses a Game ID system rather than a traditional IP address, but you can find everything you need in one place directly from the RiverHosting panel. This guide walks you through each step.
Before you start
- Make sure your Core Keeper server is installed and running. You can check its status from the top of your server page in the RiverHosting panel.
- Make sure all players who want to join have Core Keeper installed through Steam.
- If your server has a password set, have it ready to share with your friends.
Core Keeper identifies servers using a unique Game ID rather than a raw IP address. Players enter this ID inside the game to find and join your server directly.
1. Find your Game ID on the Connect page
The easiest way to get your connection details is through the dedicated Connect page in the panel.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel.
- Click on your Core Keeper server from the server list.
- In the left-hand menu, click Connect.
- You will see your server's Game ID displayed on this page. Copy it so you can share it with anyone who wants to join.
- The Connect page also shows your server's IP address and port in case you need those details for other purposes, such as server queries or troubleshooting.
The Game ID is the simplest thing to share with friends. They only need that one string to find and join your server from inside the game.
2. Join the server in Core Keeper
Once you have the Game ID, connecting from inside Core Keeper takes just a few steps.
- Open Core Keeper on your PC.
- From the main menu, select Join Game.
- Choose the option to join by Game ID.
- Paste or type in the Game ID you copied from the Connect page.
- If your server has a password, enter it when prompted.
- Click Join and you will load into the server world.
Your server needs to be in a running state before anyone can connect. If the server shows as offline in the panel, start it first by clicking the Start button on your server page.
3. Share connection details with friends
If you want your friends to join without asking you each time, you can share the details in advance.
- Go back to the Connect page in the RiverHosting panel.
- Copy the Game ID shown there.
- Send it to your friends along with the server password if one is set.
- Your friends follow the same in-game steps above to connect using the Game ID.
If you would prefer players to reach your server using a memorable address rather than a raw Game ID or IP, you can set one up using the Subdomain Manager in the panel. Available base domains include playriver.net, playriver.xyz, and playminecraft.pro.
Troubleshooting
- The Game ID is not working. Make sure your server is fully started and showing as online in the panel. The Game ID is only active when the server is running.
- Friends cannot connect. Double-check that you have shared the correct Game ID. You can always revisit the Connect page to copy it again.
- Wrong password error. If your server has a password set, confirm the exact password with the server owner. Passwords are case-sensitive.
- Server crashes on join. Check the Console tab in the panel for any error messages. If the server stopped unexpectedly, try restarting it and connecting again.
- Game ID keeps changing. The Game ID can change when the server software is updated or reinstalled. If your old ID stops working, visit the Connect page again to get the current one.
