How to Enable and Configure a Password on Your Conan Exiles Server

    3 min read·Updated Jul 22, 2026

Learn how to set a server password on your Conan Exiles server using the RiverHosting panel so only invited players can join your world.

Setting a password on your Conan Exiles server is one of the quickest ways to keep uninvited players out. Whether you are running a private server for a close group of friends or just want to control who can join, the RiverHosting panel lets you set a password without editing any files manually.

    Before you start

    • Make sure you have an active Conan Exiles server on your RiverHosting account.
    • Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
    • Have your server stopped or be ready to restart it after making changes. Most setting changes take effect after a restart.
    Save your password somewhere safe

Share the password only with players you want to allow. If you forget it, you can always come back to the panel and update or remove it.

    1. How to set a password on your Conan Exiles server

The easiest way to set a server password is through the Server Config page in the RiverHosting panel. Follow the steps below.

    1. Log in to panel.riverhosting.com and open your Conan Exiles server.
    2. In the left-hand menu, click Server Config.
    3. Look for the server password field. It is usually labeled something like Server Password or Password.
    4. Type your chosen password into the field. Use something easy for your players to remember but hard for strangers to guess.
    5. Click Save or the equivalent save button at the bottom of the page.
    6. Restart your server so the new password takes effect. You can do this by clicking Restart in the top controls on your server page.
Keep it simple for your players

Avoid using special characters that might be difficult to type, especially if your players are on different keyboard layouts. A short word with a number works well.

    2. How to share the password with your players

Once the password is set and your server has restarted, players will be prompted to enter it when they try to connect. Here is how to share your server details with them.

    1. In the left-hand menu, click Network.
    2. Copy your server's IP address and game port shown on that page.
    3. Send your players the IP, port, and the password you set so they can connect.
    Use a custom subdomain instead

If you want to give your players an easier address to remember, you can set up a custom subdomain using the Subdomain Manager in the panel. For example, you could give players an address like exiles.playriver.net instead of a raw IP and port.

    3. How to remove or change the password

If you want to open your server to the public, or simply update the password, follow these steps.

    1. Open your Conan Exiles server in the RiverHosting panel.
    2. Click Server Config in the left-hand menu.
    3. To remove the password, clear the password field completely and leave it blank. To change it, type the new password over the old one.
    4. Click Save.
    5. Restart your server for the change to take effect.
    No password means open access

If you clear the password field and save, anyone who knows your server address will be able to join. Make sure this is intentional before removing the password.

    Troubleshooting

    • Players are still getting in without a password: The server may not have fully restarted. Stop the server completely, wait a few seconds, then start it again from the panel.
    • Players say the password is wrong: Double-check the password in Server Config and confirm you copied it correctly when sharing it. Passwords are case-sensitive.
    • The Server Config page does not show a password field: Make sure you are on the correct server and that it is a Conan Exiles server. If the field is missing, contact support for help.
    • Changes are not saving: Make sure you click the save button before navigating away. If the problem continues, try refreshing the page and entering the password again.
