How to Change the PvP Setting on Your Conan Exiles Server
Learn how to enable or disable PvP on your Conan Exiles server using the RiverHosting panel so you can set the right ruleset for your players from the start.
Conan Exiles lets you run your server as a PvP world where players can fight each other, a PvE world where combat between players is turned off, or a PvE-C world that allows PvP only during set conflict hours. Choosing the right setting makes a big difference to how your community plays, so it is worth getting it right before your players log in.
You can change this setting at any time from the RiverHosting panel without editing any files by hand.
Before you start
- You need an active Conan Exiles server with RiverHosting.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com and open your Conan Exiles server.
- It is a good idea to let your players know before you change the PvP setting, as switching from PvP to PvE (or the other way around) will affect how they can interact with each other.
Your server needs to restart after you save the PvP setting for the change to take effect. Plan for a short period of downtime.
1. Open the Server Config page
- Log in to panel.riverhosting.com.
- Click on your Conan Exiles server from the server list.
- In the left-hand menu, click Server Config.
The Server Config page is a built-in editor for your Conan Exiles server settings. You can change the most common options here without touching any configuration files directly.
2. Find and change the PvP setting
- On the Server Config page, look for the server type or PvP option. This controls whether your server runs as PvP, PvE, or PvE-C.
- Select the ruleset you want:
- PvP: Players can attack and kill each other at any time.
- PvE: Players cannot attack each other. They can still fight NPCs and creatures.
- PvE-C (PvP Conflict): Players can only fight each other during defined conflict hours.
- Once you have made your selection, click Save to store the change.
PvE is usually the safest starting point for a casual or friends-only server. PvP works well if your group enjoys competitive survival. PvE-C is a good middle ground for communities that want optional conflict.
3. Restart your server to apply the change
- After saving, go back to the main server page by clicking the server name or the Console option in the left-hand menu.
- Click the Restart button to reboot your server.
- Wait for the server to come back online. This usually takes a minute or two.
- Join the server and confirm that the new PvP ruleset is active.
Once the server is back online, your new PvP setting will be in effect for all players who connect.
Troubleshooting
- The setting does not seem to have changed after restarting. Double-check that you clicked Save on the Server Config page before restarting. If you navigated away without saving, the change will not have been recorded.
- Players can still attack each other on a PvE server. Make sure the server fully restarted and that players reconnected after the restart. Old sessions from before the restart may not reflect the new setting.
- PvE-C conflict hours are not working as expected. The conflict hours for PvE-C are usually set by additional time-based settings in the Server Config. Check those fields and make sure the times are set correctly for your time zone.
- The Server Config page is not saving. Try refreshing the page and entering the value again. If the problem continues, contact RiverHosting support.
