How to Whitelist, Promote and Ban Players on Your Astroneer Server
Learn how to use the Players tab in the RiverHosting panel to whitelist, promote and ban players on your Astroneer server so you decide exactly who can join.
Want to keep your Astroneer base safe from strangers, or give a trusted friend admin rights? The RiverHosting panel lets you do this from the Players page, with no file editing needed.
This guide shows you how to whitelist, promote and ban players, and how to turn on the Deny Unlisted Players option so only approved players can join.
Before you start
- Astroneer only reads its settings on a clean start, so the server must be stopped before you make these changes. Changes take effect the next time the server starts.
- A player shows up in the Players list only after they have joined your server at least once.
- Astroneer has no way to report who is online, so the Players page lists every player the server has recorded, not just the ones connected right now.
- A player can hold only one status at a time: whitelisted, admin or banned.
Open your server at panel.riverhosting.com and pick your Astroneer server to see the left-hand menu.
1. How to stop your server before making changes
- Click Console in the left-hand menu.

- Click Stop and wait until the status badge at the top of the page shows OFFLINE.
Changes made while the server is running are silently discarded by Astroneer, so always stop the server first.
2. How to whitelist, promote or ban a player
- Click Players in the left-hand menu.

- Find the player in the list. If you cannot see them, ask them to join your server once, then come back and check again.
- Use the action next to their name for what you want to do:
- Whitelist adds them to the whitelist. Use the same action again to remove them.
- Promote to Admin gives them admin rights. Use the demote action to take admin rights away.
- Ban blocks them from your server. Use Unban to let them back in.
- Repeat for any other players, then start your server again from the Console page by clicking Start.
After the server starts, ask the player to try joining. Your changes apply from this start onward.
3. How to only let approved players join
If you want to keep out anyone who is not on your list, turn on Deny Unlisted Players. Make sure the server is stopped first, because the fields on this page are disabled while it runs.
- In the GAME section of the left-hand menu, click Astroneer, then the Server Config tab at the top of the page.

- Under Players & Access, turn on Deny Unlisted Players. It is off by default.
- Click Save Config.
- Go to Console in the left-hand menu and click Start.
With Deny Unlisted Players on, only players the server owner has approved can join. Approval happens live in the game through Astroneer's own join-request prompt, not from the panel. The owner needs to be connected to approve someone new.
Troubleshooting
- The player is not in the list: a player appears only after their first join. Ask them to try joining once, then refresh the Players page.
- My changes did not work: make sure the server was fully stopped (status OFFLINE) when you made them, then start it again.
- The fields on Server Config are greyed out: the server is still running. Stop it from the Console page first.
- I need to kick someone right now: the panel cannot kick players. While connected as the server owner, use the in-game SERVER ADMIN menu instead.
- Typed commands do nothing: the Astroneer server ignores console commands. Use the Players page and the Server Config page instead.
- Nobody has admin rights: check the Owner Steam Name on the Server Config page, since it must match the owner's Steam username exactly.
