How to Upload Your Own Save and Make It Active on Your Astroneer Server
Learn how to upload a .savegame file and set it as the active save from the Save Games page in the RiverHosting panel, so your server loads your existing world.
Already have an Astroneer world you want your friends to explore together? You can upload that save to your server and tell the server to load it. Everything is done from the Save Games page in the RiverHosting panel, with no file editing needed.
Before you start
- Your Astroneer server must be stopped for most Save Games actions. The page shows a Stop Server button while the server is running.
- Have your
.savegamefile ready on your computer. - Log in to the panel at https://panel.riverhosting.com and open your Astroneer server.
If you upload a save with the same Save Name as one already on the server, the old one is replaced. Pick a new name if you want to keep both.
1. How to upload your save
- On your server page, open Save Games in the left-hand menu, under the Astroneer group.
- If the server is running, click Stop Server and wait until it shows OFFLINE.
- (Optional but recommended) If the server already has a save you care about, click Download next to it first. This action works even while the server is running.
- Click Upload Save.
- Choose your
.savegamefile. - Type a Save Name. A short name with no surprises works best, for example
MyBase. - Confirm the upload. Your save now appears in the table with its Size and Last Modified time.
Keep a copy of the original .savegame file on your computer until you have checked that the world loads the way you expect.
2. How to make the uploaded save the active one
Uploading a save does not switch the server to it. You need to set it as the active save, which is the save the server loads when it starts.
- On the Save Games page, find your uploaded save in the table.
- In the Actions column, click Set as the active save.
- When asked Set Active Save?, confirm.
- Check the line near the top of the page. It should read Currently set to load: followed by your save name.
- Look for the Active Save label next to your save in the table.
The active save is loaded the next time the server starts. If the server was already stopped, you can start it right away.
3. How to start the server and check your world
- Open Console and click Start.
- Wait for the status badge to show ONLINE.
- In Astroneer, find your server in the in-game server list. After a first start it can take a couple of minutes to appear.
- Join using your join password. It is the Server Password on the Server Config page.
If you see your own base and progress when you join, the upload worked.
4. How to switch between saves later
- Stop the server from the Console page or with the Stop Server button on Save Games.
- On Save Games, click Set as the active save next to the save you want and confirm.
- Start the server again.
You can also use Rename to give a save a clearer name. The active save cannot be deleted, so set another save as active first if you want to remove it with Delete.
Troubleshooting
- The buttons are greyed out or blocked: The server is still running. Click Stop Server and wait for it to go OFFLINE.
- The server loads a different world: Check the Currently set to load line. If it shows another name, set your uploaded save as the active save and restart.
- My old save disappeared: You may have uploaded a file with the same Save Name. Look for a row marked Auto-backup (date). These are backups the game makes itself. Use the restore action on that row and confirm Restore this Backup? to bring it back as the active save.
- The save list is empty: Astroneer creates its first save the first time the server starts and saves. Start the server once, then check again.
- I cannot join: Make sure you are entering the Server Password from the Server Config page. If Deny Unlisted Players is on, the server owner must approve you in-game.
