How to Connect to Your Astroneer Server
Learn how to find your Astroneer server's connection details in the RiverHosting panel and get your friends joined so you can start exploring together.
Once your Astroneer server is up and running on RiverHosting, the next step is getting yourself and your friends connected. Astroneer uses a direct IP connection rather than an in-game server browser, so you will need your server's IP address and port from the RiverHosting panel. This guide walks you through exactly where to find those details and how to join.
Before you start
- Make sure your Astroneer server is installed and showing as online in the RiverHosting panel. If it is still installing or offline, wait for it to finish starting up before trying to connect.
- You and anyone joining will need a copy of Astroneer on Steam.
- Check that your server has enough player slots for everyone who wants to join. You can adjust this from the Server Config page in the panel if needed.
1. Find your server's connection details
All of the information you need to connect is on the Network page inside your server's panel page.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
- Click on your Astroneer server from the server list.
- In the left-hand menu, click Network.
- You will see your server's IP address and port number. Note both of these down. You will need them to connect in-game.
Make sure you copy the full IP address and the correct port. Astroneer requires both to establish a direct connection. Double-check for any extra spaces when pasting.
2. Connect to your server in Astroneer
Astroneer lets you join a dedicated server directly from the main menu using an IP address and port.
- Open Astroneer on your PC.
- From the main menu, select Co-op.
- Choose Online and then select Dedicated Servers.
- Click Add Server or look for an option to enter a server address manually.
- Enter your server's IP address and port in the fields provided. The format is typically your IP address followed by a colon and then the port number, for example
123.456.789.0:8777. - Give the server a name so you can find it easily next time, then save it.
- Select your server from the list and click Join.
If you have set a password on your server, Astroneer will prompt you to enter it before you can join. You can check or update the password from the Server Config page in the RiverHosting panel.
3. Share the details with friends
Your friends will need the same IP address and port to join. Simply send them both values and ask them to follow the same steps above to add and join the server.
If you want a friendlier address for your server instead of a plain IP address, you can set up a custom subdomain using the Subdomain Manager in the RiverHosting panel. You can pick an address on playriver.net, playminecraft.pro, or playriver.xyz, for example astroneer.playriver.net. This makes it easier for your friends to remember how to find your server.
Troubleshooting
- Connection timed out or failed to connect: Make sure your server is online in the RiverHosting panel. If it shows as offline, start it from the panel and wait for it to fully load before trying again.
- Wrong port: Double-check the port number on the Network page. Using the wrong port is one of the most common reasons a connection fails.
- Server does not appear in the list: If you saved the server but it is not showing, try removing it and adding it again with the correct IP and port.
- Password prompt when you did not set one: Check the Server Config page in the panel to confirm whether a password is set, and clear it if you do not want one.
- Friends can join but you cannot: Try restarting the server from the panel and then attempting to connect again.
- Server is online but nobody can join: Confirm the server has fully finished starting up by checking the Console tab for any startup errors.
