How to Change the Max Player Slot Count on Your 7 Days To Die Server

    2 min read·Updated Jul 21, 2026

Learn how to change the maximum number of players on your 7 Days To Die server using the RiverHosting panel so your friends can always get in when they want to play.

By default, your 7 Days To Die server is set up with a maximum player limit. If you want to open the server up to more survivors or trim it down to a smaller private group, you can change that number quickly from the RiverHosting panel without touching any files manually.

    Before you start

    • Make sure your server is running or stopped. You can make this change either way, but you will need to restart the server for it to take effect.
    • Check that your RiverHosting plan supports the number of players you want to allow. Higher slot counts may require an upgraded plan.
    • Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com and open your 7 Days To Die server.
    Keep your plan in mind

If you increase the player limit significantly, performance can drop on underpowered plans. Consider upgrading your server plan from the billing portal if you notice lag with more players online.

    1. Open the Server Config page

The easiest way to change the player limit on a 7 Days To Die server is through the built-in Server Config page in the panel.

    1. Log in to the RiverHosting panel.
    2. Click on your 7 Days To Die server from the server list.
    3. In the left-hand menu, click Server Config.
    4. Look for the setting that controls the maximum number of players. It is typically labelled something like Max Players or ServerMaxPlayerCount.
    5. Change the value to the number of players you want to allow on your server at one time.
    6. Click Save to apply your changes.
    Restart required

The new player limit will not take effect until the server has been restarted. Players already connected will not be disconnected automatically, but the new cap will apply once the server restarts.

    2. Restart your server to apply the change

After saving your new player limit, you need to restart the server so the setting takes effect.

    1. In the left-hand menu, click Console.
    2. Click the Restart button at the top of the Console page.
    3. Wait for the server to come back online. This usually takes about a minute.
    4. Once the server is back online, the new player limit will be active.
    All done

Your 7 Days To Die server will now accept up to the number of players you set. Share your server address with your group and start surviving together.

    Troubleshooting

    • The Server Config page is not visible. Make sure you are looking at the correct server in the panel. The Server Config page is specific to 7 Days To Die and appears in the left-hand menu when you are on a 7 Days To Die server.
    • The player limit did not change after restarting. Double-check that you clicked Save before restarting the server. If the value reset, try saving again and restarting once more.
    • Players are still being refused entry even though the limit is higher now. Confirm the server has fully restarted and is showing as online in the panel. If you have a whitelist or allowlist enabled, players may also be blocked by that setting separately from the slot count.
    • The server becomes laggy with more players. A higher player count puts more load on your server. If performance suffers, consider upgrading your plan from the billing portal.
