How to Add and Manage Admins on Your 7 Days To Die Server

    3 min read·Updated Jul 21, 2026

Learn how to add admins and manage permissions on your 7 Days To Die server using the RiverHosting panel so you can keep your server safe and well-moderated.

Running a 7 Days To Die server with friends or an open community means you will eventually need trusted people who can help manage the game. Admins can kick or ban rule-breakers, run server commands, and keep things running smoothly while you are offline.

The RiverHosting panel gives you a dedicated page to manage admins and their permission levels without needing to edit any config files by hand.

    Before you start

    • You need an active 7 Days To Die server on RiverHosting. If you do not have one yet, visit riverhosting.com to get started.
    • Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
    • You will need the Steam ID of each player you want to promote to admin. You can find a player's Steam ID by searching their Steam profile URL on a site like SteamID.io, or by asking them to share it with you.
    • Your server must be running for admin changes to take effect when players next connect.
    What is a permission level?

7 Days To Die uses a numeric permission system. Lower numbers mean more access. The default permission levels are: 0 (owner-level, full access), 1 (super admin), 100 (moderator), and 1000 (standard player). You can assign any value between 0 and 1000.

    1. Open the Admins and Permissions page

    1. Log in to the RiverHosting panel.
    2. Click on your 7 Days To Die server from the server list.
    3. In the left-hand menu, click Admins & Permissions.

This page shows all currently listed admins along with their Steam ID and assigned permission level. From here you can add new admins, adjust existing ones, and remove people who no longer need elevated access.

    2. Add a new admin

    1. On the Admins & Permissions page, find the option to add a new entry.
    2. Enter the player's Steam ID in the provided field. Make sure you use the correct Steam ID format (a 17-digit number starting with 7656).
    3. Set the permission level you want to assign. A value of 0 gives full access, while 100 is a good starting point for a trusted moderator.
    4. Save the entry.
    Use 100 for moderators

If you are adding a helper or moderator rather than a full admin, a permission level of 100 is usually the right choice. It gives them the ability to kick and moderate players without granting access to more powerful server commands.

    3. Change a permission level for an existing admin

    1. On the Admins & Permissions page, find the admin entry you want to update.
    2. Edit the permission level field and enter the new value.
    3. Save the change.

The updated permission will apply the next time that player connects to the server, or after a server restart.

    4. Remove an admin

    1. On the Admins & Permissions page, find the entry for the admin you want to remove.
    2. Click the remove or delete option next to their entry.
    3. Confirm the removal if prompted.
    Restart after removing an admin

If the player is currently connected to your server, removing them from the admin list may not take effect until the server is restarted. You can restart your server from the Console page using the restart button.

    5. Restart your server to apply changes

After making any changes to your admin list, a restart ensures everything is applied cleanly.

    1. Click Console in the left-hand menu.
    2. Click the Restart button at the top of the page.
    3. Wait for the server to come back online before players reconnect.
    Changes saved automatically

The panel saves your admin list to the server's configuration automatically. You do not need to manually edit any config files to apply your changes.

    Troubleshooting

    • The admin cannot use commands after being added. Make sure the permission level is set correctly. A value of 1000 is the same as a regular player and grants no extra access. Lower the value to give more permissions.
    • I entered a Steam ID but it was not accepted. Double-check that the Steam ID is a 17-digit number starting with 7656. Profile URLs and usernames are not the same as a Steam ID.
    • The admin list looks correct but changes are not working in-game. Try restarting the server fully from the Console page. Some changes only take effect after a clean restart.
    • I cannot find the Admins and Permissions page. Make sure you are viewing the correct server in the panel. The page is listed in the left-hand menu specifically for 7 Days To Die servers.
    • A removed admin still has access. If the player was connected during the removal, restart the server to fully apply the change.
