How to Join Your V Rising Server and Fix Server Browser Problems
Learn how to find your V Rising server address and password in the RiverHosting panel and fix listing settings so your friends can join without trouble.
Your V Rising server is running, but your friends cannot find it, or they get stuck when they try to join. This guide shows you where to find your server address and join password, how to make your server show up in the in-game server browser, and how to give players an easy-to-remember address.
Before you start
- You need access to your server in the RiverHosting panel.
- Your server must show the ONLINE status badge at the top of the page before anyone can join.
- Some changes on the Server Config page can only be saved while the server is stopped. The page tells you when that is the case.
1. How to find your server address and join password
Every page of your server shows address chips in the header. These chips are the quickest way to get the details your players need.
- Open your V Rising server in the RiverHosting panel.
- Look at the header at the top of the page and find the IP chip. It shows your address in the form
ip:port. - Click the chip to copy the address, then send it to your players.
- If you set a join password, you will also see a Password chip next to the address. It is hidden by default. Click the eye button to show it, or the copy button to copy it.
The Password chip only appears when a password is set. If you want a private server, open Server Config, type a value into the Password field, and save. Leave it blank for an open server.
2. How to make sure your server is online
- Click Console in the left-hand menu.
- Check the status badge. If it says OFFLINE, click Start.
- Wait until the badge changes from STARTING to ONLINE.
On most other pages you can also use the Quick Console tab (the >_ tab on the right edge of the screen) to start or restart your server without leaving the page.
3. How to make your server appear in the server browser
V Rising can list your server on Steam, on Epic, or on both. The in-game browser looks at the Epic list by default, so the Epic listing matters if your friends search for you in the browser.
- Click Console and then Stop to stop your server. Server Config can only be saved while the server is stopped.
- Open Server Config in the GAME section of the left-hand menu.
- Under Networking & Visibility, check that List on Epic (EOS) is turned on.
- Check that List on Steam is also turned on if you want Steam players to find you there.
- Under Identity, check your Server Name. This is the name players search for in the browser.
- Click Save Config.
- Start your server again from the Console page.
If your friends still cannot see your server in the browser, have them connect directly with the address you copied from the IP chip.
4. How to give players an easy address with a subdomain
Instead of sharing a string of numbers, you can create a subdomain in the Subdomain Manager.
- Click Subdomain in the GAME section of the left-hand menu.
- Click New Subdomain.
- Type a Subdomain Name (3 to 50 characters: letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores).
- Pick a domain from the Domain dropdown:
playriver.net,playminecraft.proorplayriver.xyz. - Check the Preview, then create the subdomain.
- Click the new Domain chip in the header to copy it.
For V Rising, players must add the port after the subdomain, for example survival.playriver.net:port. Replace port with the number after the colon in your IP chip.
You can have up to 2 subdomains per server. Only Minecraft Java works without a port, so V Rising players always need to type the port as well.
5. How to check your ports on the Network page
- Click Network in the SYSTEM section of the left-hand menu.
- Find the port marked Primary. This is the port players connect to.
- You will see the query port here too. V Rising uses UDP for both, and the panel keeps them matched to your server.
On the Server Config page, Game Port (UDP) and Query Port (UDP) are read only. If you ever need to change ports, do it on the Network page.
Troubleshooting
- Players cannot connect at all: Check that the status badge says ONLINE, and that they copied the full
ip:portfrom the IP chip. - Players are asked for a password and it fails: Reveal the Password chip and compare it with what they typed. If you changed the password in Server Config, the new one applies after the next start.
- The server is missing from the browser: Make sure List on Epic (EOS) is on, then stop the server, click Save Config, and start it again. Search for your exact Server Name.
- The server is full: Check Max Players on Server Config. Reserved Admin Slots lets admins join even when the server is full.
- A player with a VAC ban cannot join: VAC Secure is on by default and blocks VAC-banned clients. You can turn it off in Server Config if you want to allow them.
- Your address changed: Moving your server to a new location under Settings changes its IP. Copy the new address from the IP chip and share it again.
- Your subdomain does not work: Make sure players typed the port after it, like
subdomain.playriver.net:port.
